Michael Falk
(meteorologist from Milwaukee); $59,403, three days |
|
William Lee
(software engineer from South San Francisco, CA) |
|
Melanie Madden
(bookseller orig. from Barstow, CA) |
The forecast has been
looking sunny for Michael, but are there a few clouds on
the horizon? "He's tough." He is. He starts with $200
Close, but No Sitar. And from there, it's just hit after
hit, as Michael leads with $4800 to William's $1600
going into the TV Time out.
William finds the Daily
Double under $600 Going Monaco a Monaco. He makes it
true. The clue: a 1918 treaty said if the royal family
produced no male heirs, Monaco would come under this
country's rule. "What is France?" Right for $4800. He
leads it at the half with $5600 to Michael's $4600.
Melanie, in the game by $1200, goes first in Double
Jeopardy!...
... with $400 Hotel
California. William finds the first Daily Double under
$1200 I Can't Tell You "Y". He bets $3000 on this: in
1966 this company became the world's largest piano
maker. "What is Yamaha?" Right for $10,200. William
completes the trifecta with $1600 Life in the Fast Lane
(sense a theme?). He bets $5000 on this: considered the
world's fastest ball game, its name comes from the
Basque words meaning "merry festival". "What is
jai-alai?" Mispronounced, but he got it for $20,000! He
parlays that into $27,200 with Michael at $7400 and
Melanie at $7200. Needless to say, it's William's game
to lose.
Final Jeopardy!
in "Television": the television documentary
"America's Favorite Neighbor" was a tribute to him.
Correct question: Who is Fred "Mister" Rogers?
Michael had both Fred
Mertz and Ned Flanders. He leaves with $60,403. Michael
comes back Monday with $30,000. |

Alicia Rivera, Adam Kreher,
Colleen Coleman, and Christine Williams take us to
TPIR's spring break with a trampoline. Adam wins the
$808 trampoline as he tries to crack the Safe Crackers
safe for a living room group and a pair of lamps. In the
price of the lamps: 0, 7, and 8. He sets the lock at 7 8
0... Close. It was $870.
Flatware is on offer in
round 2, as Christine wins it at $1005. Now she gets a
shot at $16,000 playing It's In the Bag. What's in the
bag? These... Garlique, CLR drain opener, Chips Ahoy,
Cat Chow, Hot Pockets, and St. Ives cream. She puts the
Chips Ahoy at 55c... and it's the only one she gets
right, so she bails out at $1000.
Colleen wins a $1199
writing desk in round 3, and she can win a Ford Mustang
in Pocket Change. Numbers in play: 1 2 3 4 5 9. First
number: 2. After a horrendous first round, she prices
the car at $21,395. But she needs $2.25 in order to buy
it. She has a quarter. She gets a nickel... a dime...
another quarter... and another nickel. Total: 70 cents.
Not enough. And 80 isn't enough to beat Christine, who
wins the Showdown with 90.
Rhett Young, who
reenacted the famous Jim Peck "Big Falldown", wins a
$814 dinette in round 4. But can he win a trip to
Argentina in Double Prices? Is it $8611 or $5944? He
goes with $8611... and it's right!
Alicia, last of the
first-four, wins a $980 riding lawn mower. She gets to
play Switcheroo for a blender, a food scale, mop,
toaster, and a Ford Ranger! The numbers left out are 1,
2, 3, 4, and 8. The first try: $80, $35, $22, $10, and
$15,945... none of which are right. She ends up with
$40, $25, $12, $30, and $15,985, which gives her three.
Which three? The scale ($25), the mop ($12), and the
blender ($40). The car was $15,935.
Finally, Beulah Martin
wins a $687 collection of flowboards. Now Beulah!
Beulah! Beulah! Beulah! gets a shot at a galleria clock
and two electric guitars. The clock is marked at $1020.
The guitars are marked at $1199. Which is the bigger
bargain? Beulah goes with the guitars. The clock is
marked at $2020, difference of $1000. The guitars are...
$1999, only $800 worth of difference.
Don't cry for Beulah,
though; she's going to the Showcase, where she sees some
seldom seen coupons for his & hers golf equipment, a
trip to Aruba, and two offroad motorcycles. Christine
passes to Beulah, who bids $15,000. Christine gets to
play guessing games with the beauties for Krispy Kreme
Doughnuts (the official doughnut of GSNN), a hot tub,
and a Cadillac CTS. Christine bids $38,000. Actual
price: $40,401, difference of $2401. Beulah's price..
$19,490, difference of $4490. Christine takes home a
$42,446 wad of cash and prizes.
Stats: 1-4-1, $55,902. |

It's Friday, and Adrienne
McIntyre (Cleveland, OH) is hoping to add to the $2,000
that she has so far.
The stage fright thing (mentioned yesterday) has been
haunting Adrienne since 4th grade, when she was with a
choir, where they had her sing a duet with her twin
brother. Problem was, during this, she peed on herself.
Yipes. Well, at least after running to the bathroom and
cleaning herself up, she returned to finish it. So,
here's hoping she went to the bathroom before returning
to the hot seat. With that, the game resumes...
[$4,000]
Featuring some of the largest trees on Earth, the Giant
Forest is the main attraction of what U.S. national
park?
A: Sequoia
B: Everglades
C: Shenandoah
D: Yellowstone
Adrienne calls her future brother-in-law, Tony, who is
70% sure that it's A. Adrienne was thinking B, but
decides to trust Tony, going with A... and it's A!
Another question later, and this one pops up...
[$16,000]
Often compared to the iPod, many radio stations have
switched to an automated, DJ-less format known as what?
A: Blitz FM
B: Pump FM
C: Scoop FM
D: Jack FM
The 50:50 leaves B and D. Adrienne, after a bit of
consideration, goes with D... and she's right! On to the
next one...
[$25,000]
Since the Bill of Rights was passed in 1791, the U.S.
Constitution has been amended how often on average?
A: Every four years
B: Every eight years
C: Every twelve years
D: Every sixteen years
Adrienne is leaning towards D, but she's not sure
enough. So, after plenty of thought, she decides to
walk. Good thing, too; it was C. And she seems happy
with the $16,000 that she won.
Up next is Ralph Fain (Houston, TX). He's a proud
grandfather, and he wishes one of his grandsons, Blake,
a happy 6th birthday. Aww... And it turns out that Ralph
surfs, so along with an educational fund for Blake, he'd
like to use his winnings for an extended surfing trip.
So, Ralph starts by knowing that a line that is
repeatedly sung in the chorus of "The Battle Hymn of the
Republic" is "Glory, glory, hallelujah" (if you hear the
choir singing "Ice Ice Baby" instead, get a new choir).
He gets through the lower tier, then after a couple more
questions, he faces this...
[$8,000]
In 2005, NASA's Deep Impact probe lived up to its name
when it deliberately crashed into what celestial object?
A: An asteroid
B: The moon
C: Mercury
D: A comet
Ralph asks the audience, and both polls favour A (40% of
the studio audience; 50% of the AIM users), though D
(37%; 33%) was close. Ralph trusts the audience, saying
A... but it's D! Ouch. Well, at least Ralph has $1,000.
Getting the next shot is Dianne Clooney (Bradenton, FL),
a 2nd-grade teacher. I wonder if she's related to George
Clooney in any way... Well, anyway, Dianne starts by
knowing that according to a famous Beach Boys lyric, a
feisty young girl will "Have fun, fun, fun 'til her
daddy takes the T-bird away". She then easily reaches
$1,000.
That'll do it for this week. We'll see Dianne back in
the hot seat on Monday. |
