Chris Smith (advertising creative director from Dallas); $42,199, two days
Erynn Masi de Casanova (graduate student originally from St. Petersburg, FL)
John Ward (musician from Blue Hill, ME)

Man... Jeopardy! was in town and I didn't catch'em? Darn. No, wait, clues were probably recorded when they were in Raleigh. I get it now. Anyway, Chris begins his search for a third title today.

He starts with $200 College Sports Rivalries, getting that and easy access to the Daily Double under $400. He bets the max of $1000 on this: the 2 team captains in this football rivalry's first game both died in the Spanish-American War. "Who are Harvard and Yale?" Wrong. It was Army and Navy, as he is left $800 under. The skid would not has long, though, as he leads at the half with $5400 to Erynn's $4400. John, not too far off with $4000, gets to go first in Double Jeopardy!...

... with $400 European Composers. Erynn has the lead when John finds the Daily Double. With $10,000 betting money, he goes for $3000 on this: Keats' "Ode to" this includes the line, "Thou wast not born for death, immortal bird!" "What is a nightingale?" Right for $13,000! Chris, deep behind John, finds the second Daily Double under $1600 Let's Get Economical. He bets $2200 on this: in this 1867 work Karl Marx declared that free enterprise would lead to severe depressions. "What is Das Kapital?" Right for $12,000. He would end up with that much money, while Erynn had $13,600 and John, $19,400.

Final Jeopardy! in "Word Origins": The word "toxic" comes from the ancient Greek for this weapon. Correct question: What is an arrow?

No one is right, and bad thing for Chris, who bet everything but a dollar. John wins this one with $11,599. Chris leaves with $43,199.

After reeling from the shock from Peter Tomarken, let's just go right into Tuesday's recap.

The $1,000 Tossup is PHRASE. Tiffany Meredith is a social worker from Milwaukee, WI. She solved SLOWLY BUT SURELY for $1,000. Steve Abar is from Royal Oak, MI. He is a buyer for a major automotive manufacturer. Sarah Fuque is a bartender from Mobile. She was awarded "Best Bartender" for 2004.

The $2,000 Tossup is THING. Steve has $2,000 with RUBBER CEMENT. He starts the next round as we add an NWA WorldVacations trip to Amsterdam worth $6,100 to the wheel. The category is PROPER NAME. Steve hits Lose A Turn on his first spin. Over to Sarah. She misses...over to Tiffany. She hits Lose A Turn....and so does Steve again. Right back to Sarah who solves KID STAR DAKOTA FANNING for $3,500.

The jackpot round is sponsored by Meineke. The category is SAME NAME. Sarah starts. First Spin, Jackpot wedge. Of course she doesn't solve. She hits and picks up the $1,000 aa.com gift tag. She misses...over to Tiffany. She misses after a lot of work...over to Steve. He misses...back to Sarah. She hits and picks up a 4 piece set of Ricardo Beverly Hills Luggage. She misses...over to Tiffany and she solves INFERIORITY & APARTMENT COMPLEX for $3,500. She has $4,500.

The mystery round prize is $10,000 courtesy of Radisson Hotels and Resorts. The category is ON THE MENU...and a PRIZE PUZZLE as well. Tiffany starts. She hits the mystery wedge...will she risk $3,400...she does...and hits the $10,000! Here we go! And she solves SIDE ORDER OF BLACK BEANS OR PINTO BEANS for $15,250 in cash and a trip to Mexico! It's a trip to Puerto Vallarta and the Casa Magna Puerto Vallarta Resort from the Marriott Chain with airfare from Aeromexico worth $5,000. And if you have the SPIN ID is DM21666 you off to Puerto Vallarta! And if you have the Sony Card, you have $50,000! That round was worth $20,250 and she has $24,750 in cash and trip to Mexico.

The $3,000 Tossup is TITLE. Steve solves MEN'S HEALTH for $3,000. He has $5,000. Steve starts this round which is EVENT. He hits Lose A Turn...over to Sarah. Steve had a lot of rough luck with the wheel, but came away with $5,000 in cash. But Tiffany is our winner in a big way with $24,750 in cash and a trip to Mexico.

Let's see what happens in the bonus round. She lands on the , in $100,000. Her category is PHRASE. With the RSTLNE we have:

This was a tough one. It was ON MY BEHALF...and tragedy...she lost the $100,000! But don't feel too sorry for her. She leaves with $24,750 in cash and trip.

Godspeed, Peter. We will miss you.
