|
Friedman (Lisa,
Anthony, Dave, Mike, Eric) from Long Island, NY |
After an extended
absence, the Kimbells return to defend. Round 1:
something a woman looks forward to that a man dreads (6).
Connie fires with shopping, number one. Rest of the
champs get a wedding, while the Friedmans try to steal
with "visiting family"... Got it for 59! Other answers:
going out/dinner, anniversary, Valentine's Day.
Round 2: another word for
"throw up" (6). Jenny gets the high mark again with
"vomit". From that we get barf, puke, regurgitate,
upchuck, and hurl for 94.
Double Round: a
carpenter's tool you hope a surgeon never uses (full board).
Dave gets number one with a hammer. The challengers also
get a saw and a drill. The Kimbells try to steal with a
screwdriver.... Up there for 256! Other answers: chisel,
ax.
Triple Round: something
a man might have expensive tastes in (4). Mike
buzzes in with cars, number one. The Friedmans also get
jewelry and clothes. The Kimbells try one more time with
women.... NOT THERE! The Friedmans win, 323-256. Other

Jimmy Orsag (journalist
from Rochester, PA); $11,602 |
|
Melanie Perrault
(college history professor from Salisbury, MA) |
|
Amit
Bose (attorney from Tucker, GA) |
Jimmy starts this, his
first defense as champion, with $200 Hugh Done It. After
clearing the category, a rarity in Jeopardy!, a Daily
Double under a $200 clue. This time, it's under $200
It's a Mystery!. Amit, under by $200, bets $600 on this:
the title of this 1939 mystery by Raymond Chandler is a
slang term for death. "What is Murder?" Nope, it's "The
Big Sleep", as Amit is now in the red by $800. He
recovers, but with $2000, it is he who starts Double
Jeopardy! against Jimmy's $2800 and Melanie's $5800.
Kicking off Double
Jeopardy! with $400 Sports Franchises on Film. Melanie,
who didn't get any of the sports franchises, gets the
Daily Double under $1200 The Body Human. She leads by
$200, and... "I'm going to be a wimp and say $500." The
challenge: name the purple ductless 6-letter organ that
destroys 200 billion red cells a day ... on purpose.
"What is the spleen?" Right for $8700. And she finds the
other one under $800 Running in Circles. Again, she bets
only a five-piece on 66 degrees 30 minutes north
latitude. "What is the Arctic Circle?" Right for $9200.
She takes the lead going into the final with $11,600 to
Amit's $11,200. Meanwhile, Jimmy has $8400.
Final Jeopardy!
in "Word Origins": this word regarding
infidelity came from a certain bird leaving its eggs in
other nests to be raised. Correct question:
What is cuckold?
No one is right, but in
Melanie's case, it costs her big as she gets greedy,
leaving her with $399. Amit meanwhile plays gingerly and
wins $5600 by only $402. Jimmy leaves with $13,602. |

We start this one with Netra
Desai, Matthew Ciucolo, Steven Vigil, Elizabeth Bowman,
and a computer worth $1577. Only two bucks off, Netra
wins it, as the kid of a mother whose dream it was to be
on the show gets to play for 2 for the Price of 1. The
2: an electric guitar and a trip to Nashville. The first
number: either 7 or 3. Second: either 4 or 1. Third:
either 9 or 4. She gets the last number free... it's a
9. Then Netra picks the 7 and 4 for a price of $749 for
the guitar... RIGHT!
Elizabeth came from BYU to
win a $1670 set of dinnerware. But can she score
$16,000? It's in the Bag, but will she reach that far?
The products: Nesquik chocolate, Renuzit Airlets,
Udderly Smooth foot cream, Citracal, Dexatrim Max, and
Clorox bleach pen. She thinks the foot cream is 97
cents, the Dexatrim is $10.97, the chocolate drink is
$2.99, the bleach pen is $4.39, and the Citracal is
$5.49... She's only right on the foot cream. No more
money for her...
Matthew wins a GPC
telescope worth $2074 in round 3, and you know, we
haven't had a car yet... how about a Cadillac CTS? He
plays 3 Strikes. The numbers: 1, 3, 6, 7, and 8. Second
pick: strike one. Third, he gets and places the 3 in
position 1. Seventh pick: the 8 in position three. Then
the 6, and the 7 for the $36,871 car... All he needs is
to pull the 1... And he pulls... STRIKE TWO! Final
shot.... THE ONE! Matthew wins the car, but Netra wins
the place in the Showcase.
Daniel Sullivan wins a
range in round 4 worth $1999. From there, he gets a shot
at One Wrong Price. An old-fashioned bathtub: $2351. An
offroad motorcycle: $2094. A dinette: $1189. One is
wrong... Daniel thinks it's the bathtub... The bathtub
is... $1608! Winner!
Amy Lee wins a $799 wall
clock. Now she steps up to the dice table for a Ford
Focus. First number: 1. First dice roll: 1. Higher.
Second dice roll: 5. Amy goes lower. Third dice roll: 4.
Amy goes against the odds and says higher. Final dice
roll: 1. That's higher. So she gets 3 numbers out of
five. The third number... 1. So now it's all on the
fourth... 3. She loses the $16,135 car.
Last chance for Steven
with tennis equipment. Price: $650. Winner... Steven! He
gets to play for a brass bed with sleep set. Is it $4529
or $3619? He goes with $4529... Right! He wins that, but
it's Daniel who joins Netra at the Showcase.
First up, Phire looks in
her closet and finds a trip to New York City, a trip to
Amsterdam, and a fold-down trailer. Must be a big
closet. Top winner Daniel bids $26,000. Netra gets a
trip to Port o'Price, where a fridge, a chair, and a
snowmobile are coming off of the docks. Netra bids
$18,750. Actual price... $18,493. She's over and by so
little. Daniel's actual price... $35,099! He wins the
day with $42,029!
Stats: 4-2, $93,341. |

Going into today's show,
Roseann Avolio (Clifton, NJ) has reached $8,000, and
still has all her lifelines available. Could she make it
all the way to the top?
It had already been established that Roseann has been
quite excited, but she was also excited when she was in
the audience a few weeks prior to this taping (which was
when she took the test to get here). She then mentions
that back then, before a show, while T-shirts were
thrown into the audience and a comedian warmed up the
crowd, she ended up called on down for a bit! No wonder
she's so excited! Anyway, the game resumes, and after a
couple of questions, she gets $25,000! Now, she has 4
lifelines, and she goes to the upper tier...
[$50,000]
What starring TV role did Bing Crosby turn down,
reportedly because it would interfere with his golf?
A: Marcus Welby
B: Columbo
C: Barnaby Jones
D: Cannon
The 50:50 leaves B and D. Roseann was leaning towards C,
so it's a good thing she used that lifeline. So, she
then asks the audience. Both polls favour B, with the
studio audience split 55% to 45%, and the AIM users
split 62% to 38%. Roseann likes the numbers from the AIM
poll enough to trust the audience and say B... and
they're right! Moving on...
[$100,000]
In 1939, what two teams played in the first baseball
game broadcast on TV?
A: Ohio State and Penn State
B: Syracuse and Rutgers
C: Princeton and Columbia
D: Yale and Harvard
Roseann says she doesn't have anyone on her
Phone-a-Friend list that would know enough about sports
to answer this one, so she switches it out. After the
answer is revealed to be C, they go to a commercial
break. After the break, this pops up...
[$100,000] (Q)
By definition, eustatic change is a worldwide alteration
in what?
A: Ozone levels
B: Radioactivity
C: Surface temperature
D: Sea level
After some thought, Roseann calls her friend Sonia, who
says D. Roseann cheers loudly for a few moments, then
goes with D... and it's D! She's out of lifelines now,
but who knows, maybe she could get lucky and the next
question (or 2, or maybe even 3) could be something she
somehow knows. Let's see what it is...
[$250,000]
"The Oprah Winfrey Show" made its national debut on
September 8, 1986 with an episode about what?
A: Inspirational teachers
B: Marrying the right person
C: Loving your body
D: Moms who do it all
Roseann happens to be a fan of that show, but she does
have to think about this one. She thinks it's not C. She
thinks it might not be A. She doesn't think it would be
B. She then says she's torn between A and D, possibly
leaning towards D from what I heard her say. But she's
not confident enough to risk it, so she walks. Turns out
that it was B after all, so it's a good thing she bailed
outta there! And as a result, Roseann is heading outta
there with $100,000, and she is still as excited as
ever!
Looks like she also took up the entire half-hour, as
time runs out for today. We'll be seeing someone else in
the hot seat tomorrow. |
