Ex-Husbands
(Brian, Otis, Tim, Mark, Louis) |
|
Ex-Wives (Patti,
Debra, Pam, Ashley, Andrea) |
Once upon a time, these
ten people said, "I do..." Now they don't... as they
play for $20,000 in Family Feud's annual Battle of the
Divorced Couples. You may recognize one of the
ex-husbands from an appearance earlier this season with
his four sisters.
Round 1:
something of Tarzan's that Jane would get if they
divorced (5). Ashley chimes in with rope, beating Mark's
loin cloth, three to five. Pam gets #2, the treehouse.
Debra shocks the monkey for #1. The Ex-Husbands try to
steal with bananas... b-a-n-a-n-a-s. Not there! The
girls get 79! Other answer: half the jungle.
Round 2: something a
woman who's dating several men needs a lot of (5). Tim
gets #2, time. Otis gets number one, condoms. They also
get clothes while the women try to steal with
"alibis"... They're up to 135! Other answer:
energy/strength.
Double Round: something
that squirts when you least expect it (5). Debra gets
#1, a lemon. The ex-wives also get a water hose, a water
gun, a baby... and condiments? The guys hope so... Nope.
The ladies dominate at 267. Other answer: shower.
Triple Round: something
you have to put up with if you live in Los Angeles (4).
Patti gets #2, traffic. Andrea gets #4, people (rude or
otherwise). Ashley gets #1, smog. The ex-husbands get
one more chance with long lines... Not there! The
Ex-Wives win, 495-0. Other answer: earthquakes (said!).
Andrea and Ashley take
the Fast Money Board for the not-so-desperate
housewives, where Richard drops a bombshell. If the
winning team does not win Fast Money, the other team of
exes wins $2500. She gets number one with "something
people stick pins into" (pin cushion) and "a jewel found
in a crown" (a diamond) for 123. Ashley gets "how many
people would you invite to a dinner party" (six) and
misses on "something people stick pins into" (their
eyes). End result... 165. The girls get the victory, but
the guys get the money as they lead this week, $2500 to
zero. |

The
Price is Right by Travis Schario, GSNN
Air time: 11a ET/10a CT on CBS
(markets may vary)
Host: Bob Barker |
|
February 6, 2006. A day
which will live in "Price is Right" history.
Our First Four contestants: Erica Hernandez, Monica
Jensen, Derek Winters Sr., and Heather Gurule; all have
a shot to bid on a Doughboy Swimming Pool. But, before
we get to the bidding, we have to take a gander at Bob's
new tie and cufflinks. Thanks to Rich Fields for the tie
and cufflinks, which garnered Barker "more applause than
usual." Now, to the bidding. Monica takes the pool,
valued at $2974, to play with the Blocks. Her 1-2-3
prizes: a pair of surfboards, a Cape Cod brass Captain's
telescope, and a C&J Custom Furniture secretary desk.
Her first block hits the scope, Block 2 on the boards,
and 3 on the desk. With a groan and a resounding "NO"
from the audience, we check the prices:
Telescope; $1980. A collective
suck-air-in-thru-the-teeth sound comes from the crowd.
Surfboards; $1000. Desk; $2280. Our first loss.
Heather Gurule. This is the woman who is about to make
history. She captures a Howard Miller 79th Anniversary
floor clock, valued at $3285. She will be the first
person in over 20 years to play...
BALANCE GAME!!
Before the results of game play, a quick rules
breakdown. On stage, we see a giant gold "Justice"
scale, in front of a purple backdrop. To the right of
this scale, a model (Gabrielle today) with a bag of
"Barker Dollars" representing the price of the prize (a
Yamaha RS 90 Vector GT Snowmobile). To the left of the
scale, a set of four smaller bags ($188, $1000, $3000,
and $6000). Three of these bags make up the full price
of the prize. If the three bags on the contestant's side
of the scale balance with the bag on the prize side, the
contestant wins!
Here's how game play went. Bob placed the first bag,
$188. This represents the last three numbers in the
price of the snowmobile. Heather places the $1000 bag on
the scale, checks with the audience, then places the
$6000 bag on the scale, forming a total of $7188 for the
snowmobile. Gabrielle places the bag for the snowmobile
on the other tray. The scale goes haywire bouncing back
and forth for a moment, then settles...TIPPED in the
direction of the snowmobile. ARP: $9188. The $6000 bag
was OK, but she needed the $3000 bag on there as well.
T-MAC NOTE: This strikes me as a new Act IV Hurry-Up
game. A nice revisit to the days of ole and the bright
red, gold, and neon scale. Also, am I one of very few
people who actually enjoyed the old Balance Game?
One of our newer contestants, Anthony Head (who bounded
up from the Front Row), picked up a 3-pc. maple bar set,
valued at $2499. He takes to the Turntable to Cover Up a
Ford Ranger. The Board:
6
3 7
9 8 1
3 5 4 3
1 4 2 7 8
3 6 8 5 4
----------
$2 1 4 2 5
His first cover of $16,871, nets him the first two and
last number in the price. His second cover: $16,581;
nets him nothing more. ARP: $16,231.
A winless first half leaves our History Maker, Heather,
open for the Showcases with 85¢ in the Showdown.
In Act IV, we go a little nuts. Called contestant Chad
Middleton was part of a group that passed "Fingers"
Greco on the freeway. Their car windows read, "We're
going to Price is Right...Our next car will be a
Corvette!" He, unfortunately, does not make it up this
round. Instead, hyperactive UCSB student Stacy Olsen
makes her way to the stage after picking up a Malm
fireplace (with fire ROARING), valued at $1200. After a
bit of spazzing, she plays Hit Me for a trip to Portugal
worth $7142. She cuts DEEP into the deck, placing the
bottom four cards to the top. House draws a 4 of spades.
Her picks:
A can of Goya black beans. Marked $1.18. ARP: 59¢ for a
2 of diamonds.
An Energizer battery dispenser. Marked $71.92. ARP:
$8.99 for an 8 of diamonds. Hand at 10.
A box of Nesquik. Marked: $4.19. ARP: $4.19 for The Ace
of Clubs and 21! She goes into another fit that would
require Ritalin to stop, while Bob steps safely out of
harm's way.
Next, our newest contestant prematurely takes to the
stage. Virginia Wymer walks up the Winner's Stairs, then
is escorted right to the other side and guided to her
spot by a page and Derek. Erica picks up a Honday CRF 80
offroad bike, valued at $2094, to play Secret X for a
set of stainless steel appliances, worth $2999. Her Free
X goes in the top left, however, she COMPLETELY wipes
out on a $38 drink mixer (took $50), and the $80 retro
toaster (took $40).
Finally, Derek picks up a set of his & her Rossignol ski
equipment, worth $1775. He goes to the Dice table to
play for a Chevy Cobalt LS coupe. His rolls:
3, called higher
2, called higher
3, called higher
6, called lower (Duh).
Obviously, the last one was right: [4]. The first 3 was
right: [5], as was the 2: [5]. With a small buildup from
Barker, the other 3 was lit: [6]. Derek is a winner, and
walks to the Showcases as the Top Winner with 90¢.
Showcase #1 stars Lanisha as Grandma Gertrude leading
her double life. The prizes: an ESP MH400NT Electric
Guitar with case, a trip to Six Flags of Texas (in
Dallas), and a Ford Mustang V6 Coupe Deluxe. Derek keeps
it, and with some thought, bids $25,250.
Showcase #2 takes a stop at the Train Depot. The prizes
on the flatcars: a Jacobsen C Fast Cat riding lawn
mower, a Johnston Casuals dining group, and a 42" Runco
Plasma TV. Heather stays conservative (ULTRA-like) and
bids $9523.
Needless to say, Heather didn't go over: ARP $14,440 for
a difference of $4917. Derek's Showcase:
$25.........197! OVER BY $53!! Heather walks away from
this show with $17,725 and a place in game show lore.
STATS: 2/6; $50,973 |

Who
Wants to Be a Millionaire by Don Harpwood, GSNN
Air time: Check listings or
millionairetv.com
Host: Meredith Vieira |
|
The crew is at Walt Disney
World, and there's an audience full of people who want a
shot at a million bucks. Sounds like what they call Walk
In and Win Week, doesn't it? Well, that's what this is,
and we'll see if any of them can make enough of a mark
on the show's budget all week.
First up is... Mickey Mouse? Nah, he's just there for
show, though I bet it would have made for an interesting
show if he was to play. Anyway, for those who don't
already know, each audience member had been there since
the wee hours of the morning on Jan. 14, and they each
got a number. If their number is in one of the envelopes
that Meredith opens, they will get their shot in the hot
seat.
The first number is 325, and holding that number is Ken
Cass (Edwardsburg, MI). He drove 1,250 miles from his
hometown to WDW to be here, and it took him 18 hours.
And it was because his wife wanted to make this trip.
Well, they did it, and now he's here, ready to try and
win some money. Ken starts by knowing that by
definition, a night owl is a person who makes a habit of
staying up late (though if the person was also eating
mice, he/she would be perfect for Fear Factor). He then
goes on to complete the lower tier, and after another
question, he faces this...
[$4,000]
In 44 B.C., Julius Caesar was famously assassinated on
the fifteenth day, or "ides," of what month?
A: January
B: March
C: August
D: October
Ken asks the audience. 94% of the studio audience says
B, and Ken doesn't bother waiting for the AIM results
before locking in B... and it's B! (For the record, 50%
of the AIM users also said B.) Moving on...
[$8,000]
The name of a famous grocery brand, "Spam" is a
combination of "ham" and what other word?
A: Speckled
B: Special
C: Spanish
D: Spiced
The 50:50 leaves C and D. Ken says D... and he's right!
Next question...
[$16,000]
The MTV Video Music Award trophy features an astronaut
holding a what?
A: Television
B: Flag
C: Guitar
D: Microphone
Ken goes with A... but he's wrong! It's B! Well, at
least he has $1,000.
Time for another number. It is 231, and that brings down
Julie Tribett (Middleburg, FL). She's currently
attending the University of North Florida, studying
Athletic Training. So, I bet she could use the money,
but does she have the smarts to get it? She says she's
not a trivia buff, though, so that could be a problem.
But we'll see, as Julie starts by knowing that
well-defined abs are referred to as a "six-pack" due to
their resemblance to a six-pack of cans. As she
continues along the lower tier, she soon sees this...
[$500]
Aesop, the sixth-century Greek author, is primarily
known for writing what type of fiction?
A: Mysteries
B: Romances
C: Fables
D: Horror stories
Julie decides to ask the audience. At least she waits
for both sets of results, as we see that 94% of the
studio audience and 59% of the AIM users say C. Julie
trusts them... and they're right! She then completes the
lower tier, before getting to this...
[$2,000]
In "When Harry Met Sally," Sally provokes what famous
response from a fellow patron after "faking it" in a
diner?
A: That's not on the menu
B: I'll have what she's having
C: You want fries with that?
D: Now that deserves a tip
Julie uses the 50:50, leaving B and D. She then goes
with B... and it's B! Another question later, and this
surfaces...
[$8,000]
Paul von Hindenburg, namesake of the ill-fated airship,
served nine years as president of what country?
A: Germany
B: Czechoslovakia
C: Denmark
D: Belgium
Julie calls her cousin Tammy, but she stutters for a
moment, and is unable to give an answer in time. Julie
then decides to just go for it, saying A... and she's
right! She then gets through another question, reaching
$16,000.
That'll be all for today. Julie will try for $25,000
(and if she's lucky enough, she could go for more)
tomorrow. |
