Williams (Ron,
Carrie, Cindy, Jackie, Danielle); $875 |
|
Mercer
(Kenneth, Stephanie, Darryl, Pamela, Jerry) from
Charlotte, NC |
Round 1:
something Oprah's fans can't wait for her to do (6). Ron
jumps in with the whole car thing for #1! Rest of the
family comes in with getting married and a new book club
entry. The Mercers try to steal with the baby. It was
either that or run for president... Got it for 84! Other
answers: lose weight, become president.
Round 2: something you
might see an "out of order" sign on that would make you
very unhappy (5). Carrie fires with a bathroom for #1.
Telephones, ATMs, and... an elevator? The Mercers hope
so... Not there! It's a six-point Feud with the Williams
at 90! Other answer: gas station/pump.
Double Round: one thing
people run out and buy after a natural disaster (full
board). Cindy hoses down the board with water for number
one. The champs also get food. Can the Mercers steal
again with gas? Not there! The Williams have 250! Other
answer: flashlights, batteries (said), clothes/shoes,
insurance.
Triple Round: if you got
fired from your job on Monday, something you'd might do
on Tuesday (4). Unemployment office beats shopping as
Jackie wins the faceoff. Ron looks for a job... and he
finds it under #1! Sleep in does it for the Williams, as
they win, 514-84!
Carrie and Jackie take on
the Fast Money again. Hopefully, they'll turn the trick
this time... They do it with two to go for a two-day
total of $20,875! |

John Stratford
(caterer from Petaluma, CA); $22,795 |
|
Rick Hoffman
(technical instructor from Oswego, NY) |
|
Jeanne Perrier
(substitute teacher and library clerk from Wolcott,
CT) |
John beat a big champ to
get to the first lectern today, but he faces more mature
competition than he did previously. How will he manage?
He starts with $200 College Athletics. So far.. no good
for the champion. He's $1000 under. Rick has $2600,
while Jeanne has $3800 at the TV time out.
Rick finds the Daily
Double under $1000 World Capitals. Trailing by $600, he
bets the level on the capital the Dutch East India
Company took over and rebuilt with many canals. "No
idea." It was Jakarta, as Rick drops to $2200. He gains
ground, enough to tie Jeanne at the half with $4400.
John, with $1400, gets to set the pace by picking first
in Double Jeopardy!...
... with $400 Say the
"Magic" Words. Moving to First Novels for $2000, the
Daily Double is under that one. John goes all in on
this... Larry McMurtry took the title of this first
novel from William Butler Yeats' famous epitaph. "What
is 'Lonesome Dove'?" Nope, it was "Horseman, Pass By",
as John is zapped to nothingness. Going to Which Craft,
as Jeanne finds the Daily Double under $1600, betting
only $1000 on the "fast" partner of the Mayflower. "What
is the Speedwell?" Right for $8200. She moves up to
$12,200 at the end of this round to John's $1600. Rick,
though, leads large with $22,000.
BUT! A change in scoring drops Jeanne to $8200 and
literally gives Rick the game provided he doesn't pull
any heroics in...
Final Jeopardy!
in "Hit Songs": this No. 1 hit from 1968 was
part of a hit film's soundtrack & was originally written
about Eleanor Roosevelt. Correct question: What is "Mrs.
Robinson?"
Rick is the only one
right, so he's the only one returning with $24,000! John
leaves with $23,795.

Kimberly Showalter, Lucas
Belkind, Sherri Schneider, and Erik Olsson have a
trampoline to bid on... and Lucas can now Step Up
because of it! On stage today: an offroad motorcycle, a
sofa, a home gym, and crystal stemware. His first
choice: the stemware at $775. Then comes the gym at
$1000. He gets both prizes and $500. Next up, the home
gym... $1499! That's another $1000! Finally, the
motorcycle... $2394! He sweeps the board and the $3000!
But what about Kimberly? She
wins watches, but can she convert into a Dodge Caravan?
Her game is Pathfinder (C-Note: Why don't they ever play
Pathfinder for a Pathfinder? Because a Pathfinder is a
foreign car). Unfortunately, Kimberly doesn't go
anywhere. She missed the second number, and wipes out on
the three small prizes: the knife sharpener, the
mini-washer, and the cordless phone. So she sweeps the
board as well... but not in the way intended. Hey,
Roger, how many times has that happened?
"*holds up two fingers*
Twice."
Thought so. The car, by
the way, was $20,194. Taking Kimberly's place is MSG
Carlice Moffett, USMC. He gets a wine cellar and a pass
to play for $10,000. The Grand Game target: $5.50. The
products: Udderly Smooth foot cream, Hot Pockets,
Quickie Soap & Scrub, Coricidin HBP, Theragesic, and
Garlique. He goes for the Hot Pockets... $2.29. Then
comes the foot cream... 97c! Then the scrub brush...
$4.89! He goes on with the Garlique.... $13.99... Dang.
But don't cry for him, as he's a one-spin wonder in the
Showcase Showdown, winning $1000.
But who'll join him? Erik
gets out of the row with a day sailer in round 4. He's
pushing over for a brass bed with sleep set. The setup:
2 4 7 9 5 3 5 6 0. He pushes to $4795... and he pushes
too far, missing out on a good night's sleep worth
$5356.
Jacqueline Rowe gets on
stage with a set of "occasional tables". But what she'd
really like comes with four wheels... a 2006 Ford Focus!
She can win that OR snowshoe equipment OR whatever loose
change they found out on the promenade. First number in
the car is 1. The game, of course, is Any Number. The
4... Piggy bank. The 7... CAR! The 5... Snowshoes. The
3... Piggy Bank. The 6... Snowshoes. The 9... Snowshoes.
Jacqueline wins snowshoes worth $956.
Last chance for Sherri...
sniped by Rachel Bloch, who wins a PDA. Now she can win
a pool table and a digital piano. The pool table is
marked $3500. The piano is $2595. Is that true or should
they be Switched? Rachel leaves them be... and it's a
good thing, because she's right! That's all the winning
she'll do, as Erik wins the Showdown...
First Showcase: bad signs
with a computer, a trip to Ireland, and a travel
trailer. Top winner Erik passes to Carlice, who bids
$22,000. Actual price: $30,206. Difference: $8206.
Second Showcase: prizes shown before Brandi takes
lunch... Krispy Kreme doughnuts (C-Note: the official
doughnut of Game Show Newsnet), a gas grill, and a 2006
Pontiac Vibe! He bids $19,000. Actual price... $19...
240! For the fourth time this season, we have a DOUBLE
SHOWCASE WINNER! Erik takes home $52,341!
Stats: 2-4, $74,564. |

We are almost at the end of
our stay in Paradise...so here's the Thursday recap of
"Two Tickets to Paradise" week! The $1,000 Tossup is FUN
AND GAMES. Ashley Foster solved THREE-LEGGED RACE for
$1,000. She is recently engaged and is from Bay St.
Louis,
MS. Chris is a theater major and does standup and
improv. Glenda Palka is from Tehachapi, CA.
The $2,000 Tossup is RHYME TIME. ( I sensed a post
production audio edit here.) Chris quickly solved WILD
CHILD for $2,000. And we add this to the wheel...a trip
to the Maruba Resort Jungle Spa in Belize worth $6,620.
We start the game with a PHRASE...and Chris starts and
quickly picks up a $1,000 Sierra Trading Post GC and a
Free Spin...he hits Lose
A Turn...and doesn't use the Free Spin. She solves
STRANGER THINGS HAVE HAPPENED for $2,550 and everyone is
on the board. .
The jackpot round is sponsored by Midas. The category is
THING...and a PRIZE PUZZLE. Glenda starts and hits
Bankrupt. Ashley gets her first shot at the wheel. After
a lot of work, she misses...over to Chris. Chris misses
and uses the Free Spin. He misses again, over to Glenda.
Glenda hits the Jackpot wedge and solves DEEP-DARK LONG
LASTING TAN for a
total of $10,450. And you get a tan like that on your
trip to Fiji! It's a trip to Treasure Island Resort on
the Fiji Islands with airfare from Air Pacific, Fiji's
national airline! It's worth $7,750! And if you have the
SPIN ID of LP03599 you are off to the South
Pacific...and if you have the Sony Card...you have
$50,000 in cash courtesy of the Sony Card! That round
was worth $18,200 and she has a huge lead of $20,750 in
cash and trip!
The mystery round prize is $10,000. The category is
WHERE ARE WE? Ashley starts. She hits $3,500 and 4
L's...She hits the mystery wedge and doesn't risk
$19,700 to see if it's $10,000. She solves OIL WELLS
PANHANDLE THE SOONER STATE for $19,700. And she says
FLORIDA...and kicks herself for missing OKLAHOMA. She
has $20,450 and is $300 off the lead.
The $3,000 Tossup is next. It's TV TITLE. Chris had
$5,000 with ANTIQUES ROADSHOW. He starts this round
which is ON THE MAP. But we go right into the FINAL
SPIN...$6,000 a letter tonight! We are breaking the bank
tonight! And Chris has $13,800 with BRANSON MISSOURI but
he finishes in 3rd place with $18,800 in cash! Wow!
Ashley leaves with $20,450 in cash as well...but Glenda
hangs on with $20,750 in cash and trip to Fiji!
Let's see we gave away $60,000 in cash and prizes in the
front game...can Glenda add more to that total? She
lands on the 1 in $100,000. Her category tonight is
AROUND THE HOUSE. With the RSTLNE we have:
_ _ _ T _
_ L _ _ _
She chooses HPCO and we have:
P H O T O
_ L _ _ _
And she developed her PHOTO ALBUM into a win! She won a
2006 Chevy HHR worth $23,090 and leaves with a great
total of $43,840 in cash and prizes! And we have a car
to give away! If you have the SPIN ID of DC03403, you
are the proud owner of a HHR and $50,000 cash from the
Sony Card! |

Yesterday, Angela Dowd (New
York, NY) made it to the $16,000 level, but had to use
up her lifelines to get there. Can she keep going?
She once again mentions how her 2 kids allowed her to
see the show often, and she then mentions that she saw
the blurb about how to become a contestant while
watching it at one point, and she decided to go for it,
and now, she's here. You know, the standard stuff for a
contestant. Anyway, the game resumes with this...
[$25,000]
How many years elapsed between the time the Berlin Wall
was erected and the time of its historic "fall"?
A: 22 years
B: 28 years
C: 37 years
D: 44 years
Angela decides to go ahead and guess, saying C... but
it's B! Darn. Well, she does have $1,000 to take home.
Next up is Tom Kaczka (Mountain Lakes, NJ). He would
have guessed A on that last question. But now, he has
his own questions to go through, and his first one asks
what a pull-out sofa becomes when pulled out. Tom knows
that it's a bed (though a lower back problem could be a
side effect for those who have a hard time with them).
He has no problem with the lower tier, and he's doing
very well going into this...
[$25,000]
Introduced in the 1950s, the "food-exchange system" was
developed to help people with what condition plan their
diets?
A: Arthritis
B: Diabetes
C: High blood pressure
D: Asthma
Tom uses the 50:50, which leaves A and B. He then goes
with B... and he has $25,000! He's on a roll, heading
into this...
[$50,000]
In the American version of the game Bingo, the numbers
traditionally range from 1 to what?
A: 55
B: 65
C: 75
D: 85
Tom hasn't played Bingo (at least in a while), so he
asks the audience. 74% of the studio audience says C,
and 49% of the AIM users agree. Tom trusts the
audience... and they're right! Moving on...
[$100,000]
In 1966, what U.S. state became the last to repeal its
statewide Prohibition laws?
A: Tennessee
B: Alabama
C: Arkansas
D: Mississippi
Tom has no clue, so he switches it out. The answer is
revealed to be D, then this shows up...
[$100,000] (Q)
Contrary to his nickname, Thomas "Tennessee" Williams
was born in what U.S. state?
A: Virginia
B: Missouri
C: Louisiana
D: Mississippi
Tom calls his friend Julia, who thinks it's B, but her
confidence in it is 50/50. Tom was inclined to say D,
though, but he just doesn't know, so he stops. It turns
out that the answer was indeed D, but hey, he wasn't
sure enough, and he does have $50,000!
[BTW, who would have thought that both the $100,000
question and its substitute would have the same answer
(Mississippi) at D, and that it would be right for
both?]
Sitting in the hot seat now is Rodney Crouther (Austin,
TX). Not much time left, so they get right to it, and
Rodney starts by knowing that NASA's official Web site
includes a warning about the dangers of looking directly
into the Sun (though he says Taco Bell tacos could also
be dangerous). He easily reaches the $1,000...
..But that's as far as he'll go today. Rodney will be
back tomorrow to go farther. |
