First in Ben's cab: Johnny &
Crystal, going to Seventh between 23rd & 24th. They sweep the
$25ers, but have problems with Civil War general Thomas
Jonathan Jackson's famous nickname (Stonewall). They need the
mobile shoutout on the name of the chapel where Tennyson and
Charles are buried. They go with Westminster Abbey... right
with $350! They strike on the track-and-field event that
combines running and hurdles (steeplechase). But they make it
to their destination with $550! But will they take the video?
... Reluctantly. The question: in 1968, during what political
event did riots lead to the arrest of the so-called Chicago 7?
They go with the Democratic... Caucus... Wrong. It's the
Democratic National Convention. D'oh!
Next up, a trip to 72nd &
Madison with Allie & Corey, two ladies... 68 blocks. Let's
rock. First strike: legendary musician that was shot outside
the Dakota in 1980 (John Lennon). Second strike: Ruth Bader
Ginsburg's government position (Supreme Court Justice). Time
for a street shoutout. Question: Who was the first
vice-president? They go with Hamilton. It was John Adams, and
they have to get out on the curb and have a little talk with
that shoutout guy...
Finally, we go to the Flatiron
Building with the Gianetto family. They use a street shoutout
on this: who hosted American Top 40 on the radio before being
replaced by Ryan Seacrest? They go with Casey Kasem... Right
for $100! They double up to $200 for the Red Light Challenge:
the five largest countries in South America. Peru, Brazil,
Argentina, Bolivia... Colombia! That's $450 for the Gianettos!
The mobile shoutout goes like this: the last name of executed
Communist spies Ethel & Julius? Rosenbergs.... are right for
$500. Strike one: according to Spaulding, the average life
span of which one of their products is about 10,000 bounces?
They go with tennis balls... Basketballs. Last question...
Gotten for $600! But will they go for the video? Nope. They
take the $600 and run.

Johnson (Scott,
Amy, Eric, Kelli, Kati); $20,360, two days |
|
Heredia
(Coreena, Lisa Lynn, Mary, Alex, Bianca) |
After a week of reruns
and a month of... well, a month, the fun-loving Johnsons
are back. Round 1: past or present, a TV show set
in a hospital (5). Coreena gets #2, "General Hospital",
but Scott does one better with "ER". That the first
George Clooney version or the second? They also get
"Scrubs", "House" (C-Note: I heart "House"), and
"M*A*S*H" for the 97-point sweep.
Round 2: something kids
do when their pet goldfish dies (5). Burial at sea is
#2, but Lisa Lynn wins with cry. They also get a funeral
(with the 23rd Psalm), buying another fish, and bury it
for the perfect 100.
Double Round: something
people shed (5). Eric gets #1, hair, while the rest of
the champs shed skin, tears, clothes, and ... pounds?
The Heredias hope so... Up there for 290!
Triple Round: a famous
"Barbara" (4). Alex gets... Streisand. Number one!
Walters... #2. Bush... #3. Eric's taunting the
challengers as they strike out. The Johnsons try to
steal with "The first president's wife Barbara
Washington". Two problems with that.. One, her name is
MARTHA Washington, and two... you just gave the game to
the Heredias, 578-97. Other answer: Eden.
Now it's Coreena and
Bianca are off to Fast Money, where Coreena gets 127.
Bianca only gets them up to 162 for $810.

Kevin Marshall
(student from Metairie, LA); $73,401, four days |
|
Merle Capello
(HR consultant from Westbury, NY) |
|
Chris Casper
(attorney from Tampa, FL) |
Will this be the day that
Kevin gets his $100,000? He starts with $200 Sci-Fi
Movies By Character. Going to Civil Rights Heroes for
$800 for the Daily Double. Kevin, with only $400, bets
only $600 on George Olden, the first Black designer of a
US stamp, one issued for this centennial event. "What is
the Gettysburg Address?" Close. It was the Emancipation
Proclamation, as Kevin dips back into the red by $200,
but not for long. We run out of time as Chris takes the
lead with $4400 to Merle's $4000. Kevin, still fighting
hard with $2600, plays first in Double Jeopardy!...
... with $400 Bodies of
Water. Merle finds the first Daily Double under $1200
Sister Act. With a $400 lead, she bets $3000 on the two
British sisters who played sisters in "What Ever
Happened to Baby Jane?" "Who are Olivia de Havilland &
Joan Fontaine?" Not even close. They are the Redgrave
sisters, as she is docked to $4200. Next door at Grover
Cleveland Rocks, Chris finds the other Daily Double
under $1600 with a $200 lead over Kevin. He bets $2000
on the year where Grover won the election with 58 more
electoral votes than he won in 1884. "What is 1892?"
Right for $9200! He loses a bit, as Kevin bounces back
to $11,400. Unfortunately, those are the only two we'll
see in the Final, as Merle is $1400 in the red, meaning
that she won't be around for...
Final Jeopardy!
in "Ancient Objects": In 1 Kings 8 there was
nothing inside it except 2 tablets put there by Moses.
Correct question: What was the Ark of the Covenant?
Chris is right, but holds
back to $10,600. Kevin can afford to bet $800 and still
return tomorrow. Doesn't matter, and I'll be the first
to admit that I was wrong. Kevin DOES make his five, as
he wins $16,801 for a five-day total of $90,202. |

The
Price is Right by Chico Alexander, GSNN
Air time: 11a ET/10a CT on CBS
(markets may vary)
Host: Bob Barker |
|
|
Okay, so we didn't end last
week on the high note that we wanted to, but this is
another day, so let's get it started with Jennifer
Brzniecki, Kamilla Jackson, Bobbie Lou Webb, Jay Ross,
and a set of snowboards. Jennifer of Salt Lake takes the
$765 equipment to a Swap Meet, where she can trade a DVD
camcorder for a day bed with sleep set OR a replica gas
pump OR an electric guitar. She goes with the daybed at
$2674. The camcorder is... $999. Not a good swap as she
returns to that corner of the audience where all the
winners are housed empty-handed.
After we introduce the
Barkersfield Condors (from Bakersfield), Jay of USC
takes a fridge/freezer in round 2, as he tries to win a
cool 10 large in 1/2 Off. First pairing: a hot-drink
maker at $19 and a tool kit at $33. He thinks the drink
maker is half off... It is at $38. Next, either a $10
travel bag or a $39 shaver. He goes with the bag...
Good! Finally, a $40 toaster or a $30 buffet grill. He
goes with the grill... Trip up. So he has four boxes: 1,
7, 10, and 16. He goes with 7... Empty. He should've
gone with 16.
Kamilla gets a bar set in
round 3, but will she finally serve us with a win? She
will if she navigates 3 Strikes. And her reward: what
else but a Lincoln Town Car! The numbers are 3, 4, 6, 7,
and 9. She places the 3 first after two tries, then
places the 4, then strikes, then places the 6 and 7...
and finally draws the 9! She wins a $43,769 town car!
Now we're talking! Unfortunately that's all the winning
she does, as Jay moves onto the Showcase.
And for the record, Bo
Bice was not in the crowd, but Bice (pronounced BEE-chay)
West was.
Last of the first four,
Bobbie Lou wins an area rug, but she'll have to stow it
away on her golf cart... IF she wins it in Double
Prices. The Double Prices are $8910 and $7256. She goes
with $8910.... Wrong. Back to the trip-ups.
A family game collection
is next on the docket as Darrell Finland, Sr. Only off
by a fiver, Darrell wins the collection. Now we couldn't
give away a golf cart. Maybe we'll have better luck with
a 2006 Pontiac G6! The game is Card Game, and the range
is $1000. He makes a bid of $16,100... and he's way off.
Actual price: $20,655.
Finally, Natalie Krnjaic
wins a $658 pair of map reproductions. Hopefully she
won't need a map to negotiate the Hi-Lo table. The
products: Little Debbie Swiss Cake Rolls, Theragesic,
Hot Pockets, Viactiv chews, Gold Bond healing lotion,
and Maxwell House decaf. She goes with the calcium chews
at $7.99. Then the cream at $3.99. Then the lotion at
$6.49. The rolls are $1.39. Good... The Hot Pockets are
$2.29. Good... The coffee is... $4.75. The fact that
it's decaf should've tipped her off. We're back on the
bus to Clunk City, I'm afraid, but at least Natalie gets
another shot at it in the Showcase.
First up in said
Showcase: Brandi has a metal detector (part of the
pack), and with it, she finds a bracelet on Gaby's
wrist, Gwen riding a bike, and an empty 2006 Ford
Explorer! Top winner Jay bids $28,500. Meanwhile,
Natalie gets a soda fountain, a new dining room with
dinnerware, and a trip to Berlin. She bids $15,000.
Actual price: $20,903. The actual price of Jay's
Showcase: $34,230. By $83, Jay wins it with $35,549.
Stats: 1/6, $86,954. |

Last week, Windy Waite (Cold
Spring, NY) reached the $8,000 level, and she still has
all those lifelines available. She has been through 8
questions; can she get through 7 more?
It is once again mentioned that Windy had a baby weeks
before this taping. Now, she says that the kid already
has a nickname: Sergeant Pooper. Yeah, it was the
father's idea. Anyway, we then get to see a pic of the
baby. Cute. Alright, back to the matter at hand, as the
game resumes with this...
[$16,000]
In physics equations, what letter is typically used to
represent the speed of light?
A: c
B: m
C: t
D: v
Windy asks the audience, and 43% of the studio audience
says A, while 44% of the AIM users agree. Windy wants to
make sure, though, so she uses the 50:50. It leaves A
and B. She then goes with c, which is A... and she's
right! Now, to complete the middle tier...
[$25,000]
Delivered on August 28, 1963, Martin Luther King Jr.'s
famous "I Have a Dream" speech begins with what phrase?
A: Three score years ago
B: Four score years ago
C: Five score years ago
D: Six score years ago
[It seems quite appropriate that we get to see this
question today.]
Windy decides to call her husband Jordan, who says he's
100% sure that it's C. Windy trusts him... and she has
$25,000! Moving on...
[$50,000]
Who is the longest consecutively-serving member of the
U.S. senate?
A: Trent Lott
B: Edward Kennedy
C: Robert Byrd
D: Daniel Inouye
Windy chooses to switch it out. She would have guessed
B, but it was C, so at least she's still going, and she
now faces this...
[$50,000] (Q)
In the 1998 movie "Saving Private Ryan," what is the
title character's first name?
A: Anthony
B: James
C: Robert
D: Andrew
It's a free guess, so after some reasoning, Windy goes
with B... and she's right! Still going...
[$100,000]
Originally practiced by Hindus, yoga takes its name from
a Sanskrit word meaning what?
A: Knowledge
B: Union
C: Tranquility
D: Breath
Windy thinks it's either A or D, but she's not sure
enough either way, so she walks. Turns out it was
actually B. Oh well; Windy is going home with $50,000!
Next up is Al Martorana (Holbrook, NY). He retired from
the postal service, and now, he goes by the motto, "If I
don't want to, I don't have to." Yes, he wants to be
here, and he wants to win, so they get going with Al
knowing that since 1947, Dannon has sold yogurt with
"fruit on the bottom" (though if it somehow has
cellulite on the bottom, I'd suggest throwing it away).
He eventually makes it to this question...
[$1,000]
Microdermabrasion is a medical procedure designed to
help a patient do which of the following?
A: Lose weight
B: Improve eyesight
C: Regrow hair
D: Reduce wrinkles
After saying that microdermabrasion means small
scrapings of the skin, or scraping small skin, or small
skin scrapings (same idea however it's said), Al uses
the 50:50, which leaves B and D. Al goes with D... and
he has $1,000! He then gets a few more questions to get
to $8,000.
Time is up for today. Al wants to keep going, and he
will do so tomorrow. |
