Dude.. get off your cell. This is
a game show. Mike & Jennifer (and their son Noah, who thinks
the cab is "noisy") head to 81st & CPW for our first trip.
They sweep the first tier. They sweep the second tier. First
strike: an Eskimo roll is used to turn over what kind of
capsized watercraft? (a kayak) Second strike: what seven
minute Beatles song was written for John Lennon's son? ("Hey
Jude"). Doesn't matter, as they make it to their destination
for $500! Noah says take the money and run... So they do.
That's a kid with his mind in the game right there. "Ching
ching!"
Next passenger, John-Paul, is
going to 12th and Fourth. He doesn't know what AWOL stands for
(Absent WithOut Leave) or how many are in a baker's dozen
(13). The good news: he has three blocks to go. The bad
news... he needs a mobile shoutout to figure out of what
herpetology is the study. "Reptiles and amphibians." He needs
to use the street shoutout for this: Nelson Rockefeller served
as vice-president for what commander in chief? "Ford." Right
for $200! Last question. "Bjorn, Benny, Agnetha, and Anni-frid
make up what 70s band?" "The Mamas and the Papas?"
Well... you're here at least. But it was ABBA.
Night falls as we go to 67th &
Fifth with Andy and Ann, going on a double date. They use the
mobile shoutout off the bat on this: what was the name of
George Washington's famous estate facing the Potomac in
Virginia? The Custis Lee Estate... nope. Mt. Vernon.
Strike one. The ladies get $275 as we approach the Red Light
Challenge: name the body's five basic senses. Sight, hearing,
touch, smell, and taste... Got it! We're at $525. They need a
street shoutout on this: what pharmaceutical company
manufactures Lipitor? They go with Pfizer... "I think
those are our dates." Well say thanks to them, they move you
to $1225! They miss another question about hidden sex scenes
in a violent video game (Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas). But
they do win $1325. Will they take it or go for the video
bonus? That would be a no, as they take the money and run. |

Tom Kavanaugh
(writer from St. Louis); $142,602, eight days |
|
Constance Swinger
(supervising deputy probation officer from LA) |
|
Kevin Marshall
(student from Metairie, LA) |
Last time, more proof
positive of the luck factor in this game, as Tom keeps
finding ways to pull a win out of his arse. He starts
this, his ninth game, with $200 "Good" & "Bad" Songs,
finding the Daily Double in the ninth clue under $800
18th Century American Quotes. As the only one with
money, Tom can gain the greatest foothold early, betting
$2200 on the auteur of this: "A bad cause will ever be
supported by bad means and bad men." "Who is Thomas
Paine?" That... would've given him the money. Instead,
he blanks, dropping to $600. He trails at the TV time
out, $1200 to Constance's $1400. Kevin is $200 down.
Tom took a semester off
of school to backpack around Ireland, and the gift of a
copy of "Ulysses" by his now-wife. "I read the first ten
pages, and then I was too busy drinking Guinness and
stuff." He needs to shake off some of that Guinness, as
his $3800 total has allowed Kevin to rally back to the
lead with $6000. Constance, not too far behind with
$2800, has first pickings in Double Jeopardy!...
... with $400
Women Poets. Tom finds the first Daily Double, a video
under $2000 Formula 1. He bets just $1400 on the
chemical formula of this...
H
|
H-C-H
|
H
"Umm.. What is CH4?"
Right for the tie at $8000. Back to Women Poets, as he
gets the final clue, $1600, for the second Daily Double.
Trailing by $5200, he bets... $5201. He'll either make
it a game or make it Kevin's to win. The clue: in 1850
the Athenaeum suggested that she succeed Wordsworth as
England's poet laureate. "Who is... I--I don't know."
Looks like the end. It was the one we were all thinking
of, Elizabeth Barret Browning, as Tom ends regulation
with $6799 to Kevin's $17,200. Constance is still in it
with $2800.
Final Jeopardy!
in "The US Military": established in 1903, the
oldest US military base in continuous use outside of the
US is in this country. Correct question: What is Cuba?
Constance is right... Tom is right. If Kevin's right,
it's over... It's not over, as Kevin writes "What is
Guantanamo Bay." That was the base, we were looking for
the country. Doesn't matter, as he only loses $2800 to
become the new champ with $14,400. Clock strikes
midnight for Cinderella as Tom leaves with $144,602.
We'll see him later, I'm sure.

The
Price is Right by Chico Alexander, GSNN
Air time: 11a ET/10a CT on CBS
(markets may vary)
Host: Bob Barker |

It's ladies' night at 7800.
Just follow me here. First up, Sheila Gooden, Vicki
Salinas, Gretchen Williams, and Holly Beehn. First IUFB:
a sauna. It goes to Sheila, as does the chance to win
power tools and an electric fireplace. We roll out the
big clock for the Clock Game. First up, the power tools
at $676. After dancing somewhere between 800 and 600,
she nails it with about half her time remaining. She
takes less time dancing from 1600 to the final price of
$999 for the fireplace. Either this was really easy or
Sheila sure made it look that way, as she won both
prizes and the $1000 bonus!
Joni Mulback takes Sheila's
place in the row, and then she takes her place on the
stage. After waiting 30 years from Gardena to meet Bob,
she wins a weather station, and I forecast soemthing
with four wheels... a 2006 Dodge Caravan! It can be hers
if she putts a wee little ball into a wee little hole
with a weapon ill-designed for said purpose. Instead of
the usual putter, Bob breaks out a round putter sent by
a loyal friend and true. We'll let you know right now...
he misses. And he's not too pleased about it. I wouldn't
be either. ANYWAY... The products: Udderly Smooth foot
cream, Chips Ahoy cookies, Uncle Ben's brown rice, Glad
Forceflex bags, OsCal 500, and Nature Valley granola
bars. She takes cookies, granola bars, rice, bags, foot
cream, and OsCal. She starts with the cookies are 55c.
Then comes the granola bars at $3.29. Then the rice at
$1.99. Yikes. Second line. First try... power
drive. Luckily, Hole in One is a par 2. Second try...
power drive AGAIN. Moral of the story: it's not how you
drive, it's how you arrive.
We're one and one, and
Gretchen hopes to put a mark on the W column after
taking a folding boat. She'll get that W if she
converts the Squeeze Play for a four-poster bed with
sleep set. The setup: 58928. She pulls out the first 8
for $5928. She should've pulled the 9. Then maybe Sheila
wouldn't've beaten her in the Showcase Showdown. MAYBE.
Jodie Cooper wins a DVD
camcorder in round 4, but can she take a trip to
Belgium? She can if she doesn't break Bob first. It's
the Bonus in the Bonus Game. We have a shaver at $95, a
hot drink maker at $50, a CD radio at $85, and a toaster
at $95. She goes lower all four. Prices: $125, $38,
$100, $80. She controls the drink maker window and the
toaster window. Where is the bonus? On the shaver.
Kristopher Rickie, the
first, last, and only man of the hour to make it on
stage, wins an alto sax in round 5, as well as to play
it from the passenger's side of a 2006 Ford Focus! The
game is Cover Up, and here's the board, courtesy our
good friends at Golden-Road.net...
1
9 8
4 0 5
0 9 3 3
1 7 3 8 6
3 4 6 1 2
$2 1 2 7 0
He starts out with
$14,385... Three right. He replaces it for $17,485 after
the audience in all its genius loses it when he picks
the 0 for position 2... It's good for the win!
Finally, Chandra Freeman
wins a dinette, and gets a chance at an off-road
motorcycle, a floor clock, and a washer/dryer... as long
as she knows which is the Most Expensive. She goes with
the clock. The moto is $2014. The washer/dryer is $1668.
The clock is... $3570! Another win to break even! But
that's all the winning she'll do as Jodie takes her game
(and $1000) from Canada to the Showcase.
First up, the contrarian
librarian punches up a computer, a Harley-Davidson
pinball, and a Hi-Lo trailer. Top winner Sheila bids
$21,000. Jodie gets spoiled with $1000, an HDTV, and a
2006 Ford Mustang. She bids $24,000. Actual price:
$27,694, a difference of $3694. Actual price of Sheila's
Showcase... $27,054, a difference of $6054. It's all
about Jodie, who wins $29,811, including $2000 in cash!
Stats: 3/6, $63,934. |

Yesterday, Mark D'Angelo
(North Brunswick, NJ) got to $2,000, with all lifelines
intact. How will he fare today?
In addition to what was said yesterday, Mark is also a
game fanatic, and a stickler for rules, meaning he
sticks to them no matter what. And he's been preparing
for an appearance on this show for 5 years. Yes, 5
years. He had his Phone-A-Friend list ready for that
long, and he got in plenty of practice with them in
preparation. I guess we'll soon see if it was indeed
worth it. The game resumes, and he eventually gets to
this...
[$16,000]
Often appearing in the name of boats, the abbreviation
"S.S." stands for what?
A: Speed ship
B: Sovereign ship
C: Sailing ship
D: Steamship
Mark asks the audience, and 45% of the studio audience
picks B, while 41% of the AIM users agree (though C is a
close second there at 39%). Mark goes for it, saying
B... but the audience was wrong! It was D! Ouch. Well,
he does get $1,000 for his troubles. (BTW, 31% of the
studio audience and 15% of the AIM users picked D.)
Next up is George Jugo (Bay Shore, NY). He wants to get
right to it, so they get going. George starts his run by
knowing that according to legend, it's a monster that
lies beneath the surface of Loch Ness, the famous lake
in Scotland (D was "Nude pics of Sean Connery"; 'nuff
said). He gets through the lower tier quickly enough,
then after the $4,000 question, he is asked if he is
college-educated. George's response: "Uh, I drove by one
once." Heh, nice. Moving on, and he soon reaches this...
[$16,000]
In 2005, a photographer was shot with a BB gun while
staking out what celebrity's baby shower?
A: Heidi Klum
B: Britney Spears
C: Jennifer Garner
D: Angelina Jolie
The 50:50 leaves A and B. George goes with B... and is
right! Moving on...
[$25,000]
What does the word "Milo" refer to in the name of the
famous "Venus de Milo" sculpture?
A: Model's family name
B: Sculptor's school
C: Place of discovery
D: Donor's family name
George asks the audience. 59% of the studio audience and
34% of the AIM users pick C, but it doesn't seem to be
enough. He then calls Dr. Fitsimons, but his best guess
is B. With the mixed response from those lifelines,
George decides to just walk. It turns out the audience
was right; it was C. Nonetheless, George seems happy
with $16,000.
Time to meet Ellen Whittemore (Mamaroneck, NY). She has
a pink sweater, and she says she's "in the pink", so to
speak. Anyway, she starts by knowing that in a classic
kids' story, Chicken Little frantically warns that "the
sky is falling". Ellen sweeps the lower tier, and gets
to $2,000.
And there's the horn. Ellen will be back tomorrow. |
