Time to hitch another ride around
NYC with Jessica and her friend Jeremy. Destination: Ninth
between Second and Third. They get $100 from the first four
and another $100 from the next two, signaling (heh) a Red
Light Challenge. The challenge: name five historical faces
that appear on US paper currency. Washington, Franklin,
Hamilton, Jackson, and Lincoln gets 25 Hamiltons more. They're
eight... nine... ten... eleven... twelve... thirteen...
fourteen... fifteen... sixteen... and we have a mobile to
Glenn. Question: sporting tie-dyed uniforms, what Baltic
nation won basketball bronze in the 1992 Olympics? They still
think it's Lithuania... Right for $1550. One more question and
Jeremy & Jessica ACE Ben's cab-ride quiz for $1650, a first
for the American version of "Cash Cab." Will they risk it for
the Video Bonus? No way!
Next riders: Rudolph Chen and his girlfriend Sandra, going to
Broadway & White. They miss what "POTUS" is an acronym for
(President of the United States), the birthplace of gymnast
Nadia Comaneci (Romania), and needs a mobile call to Alex for
the pet in "The Yearling." "A horse?" A deer. And oh dear,
that's three strikes. Get out.
Finally, we go to 45th between
Eighth & Broadway with Carol & Estelle. They sweep the $25
tier and get two $50ers when they need a mobile shout out on
the group that John Muir founded ("The Sierra Club!"). Right
for $250. They don't know what English king won the battle of
Agincourt (Henry V) and the theory that states that the
universe emerged from a hot, dense state 13.8 billion years
ago. Correct: Big Bang. Their answer: "Darwin's.... theory."
They need a street shoutout at Midtown. In medicine, the ABO
classification system is used to determine a person's what?
Wasted shoutout, because Carol figures it out in asking the
guy on the street. Next question: in 1984, what Democratic
candidate was plagued with rumors of monkey business with
Donna Rice? They struggle... They're.... out. Correct: Gary
Hart. |

Hobbs
(Lisa, Diana, Kendra, Jasara, Wayne); $22,500, four
days |
|
Merriweather
(Porsche, Kim, Randall, Tangela, Jevita) |
The forecast calls for a
100 percent chance of thunder and a flood of faceoffs as
the Merriweather clan stand between the Hobbs family and
eternal Feud glory. Round 1: something your dog
absolutely hates (6). Porsche runs over Lisa with #1,
the bath. Cats and sleeping outside make the board. The
Hobbs go with mailman for the steal. Up there for 59.
Other answers: thunder/loud noise, caged/tied up.
Round 2: an occupation in
which there is no room for mistake (7). Kim fires with
physician... or doctor, #1. A construction worker and a
beautician are followed up. An accountant, the steal for
the champs. Got it for 122. Other answers: police
officer, firefighter, president.
"I'm doubling the
points!": a phrase that starts with the word "make" (5).
Kendra gets "make up" for #3. Jasara's too young to be
"making love" for #2. Wayne makes a cake for #4. We make
Diana's day with #1. No sweep as the Merriweathers try
to steal with "make plans".. Not there! The Hobbs have
233! Other answer: make out.
"I think I'll triple the
points!": something you found in your food in a
restaurant and complained to the manager about it (4).
Jasara with the premature buzz-in of "hair"... #1. Bugs,
glass, and... trash? The Merriweathers hope so. Not
there! Hobbs sweep! Final score: 438-0. Other answer:
tooth.
It's the final shot at
$20,000 in Fast Money, as Jasara and Diana go against
the big board. Jasara gets number ones for "a food that
you have the break the shell to eat" (eggs), "a holiday
that might make a single person feel lonely"
(Valentine's Day), and "something that you might see
flying in the sky" (an airplane). Diana rushes out to
see 160 points accounted for. Diana equals it with "a
room in the house where most of the big decisions are
made" (kitchen) for the $20K, giving them a five-day
total of $42,500!
Two new clans tomorrow.

Tom Kavanaugh
(writer from St. Louis); $58,800, three days |
|
James Calhoun
(substitute teacher from Freeman, GA) |
|
Leslie Birdwell
(writer from Columbus, OH) |
Again, Tom found a way to
snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. Can he be as
lucky today, or will his skill carry him through? He
starts with $200 Alexander the Great. You see James and
Leslie buzz in more than Tom, but Tom takes the lead
anyway with $3800 going into the TV time out. James has
$3200 to Leslie's $800.
James finds the Daily
Double under $1000 Everything from A to X. He bets
$1200, and he'll still trail Tom even if he's right. But
let's see what he can get from this: a conclusion that
is far less important or less powerful than expected.
"What is... antithethax?" All together now... No.
Correct: What is anticlimax?. James is down to $2600,
which dips down to $2200 at the half. Leslie moves into
second with $2800 with the final clue of the round,
while Tom has $5200. Still anyone's game as James
controls the opening selection of Double Jeopardy!...
... with $400 Alexander
the Not-So-Great, where Tom finds the Daily Double under
$1200. He bets $2000 on this: Richard Dreyfuss played
this "in charge" Secretary of State in the TV movie "The
Day Reagan Was Shot." "Who was Alexander Haig?" Right on
for $8000. Noted playwright Edward Albee delivers the
second Daily Double under $1200 Playwrights & Actresses.
Leslie fronts $2000 and Mr. Albee fronts this: "I once
hoped that this woman would star in the film version of
'Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?'; her famous line 'What
a dump!' is quoted in my play." "Who is... Tallulah
Bankhead?" Nope, same era, though. It was Bette Davis,
as Leslie dips to $4400. She rallies back to come within
striking distance of Tom, with $13,200 to his $14,400.
James is still in it with $5800
Final Jeopardy!
in "US Cities": its name includes the county
of which it's the seat & the state of which it's the
capital. Correct question: What is Oklahoma City?
The men are right, giving
Tom another day and another $26,401, putting him at
$85,201. Will he break six figs? Stay tuned. |

Host: Bob Barker |

At a number of colleges and
universities across this country, college students are
celebrating "Syllabus Day." In 7800, it was a Tuesday
like any other...
...or was it?
The First Four: Miranda Liles, Betty Smith, Harold Holst,
and Deneise Koning. Their IUFB: a side by side
fridge/freezer. Deneise captures the $1349 frosty beauty
and takes her place on the Turntable to Flip Flop for a
Dell 42" Plasma and Broyhill entertainment credenza. Set
at 54 78, she could go with $4578 (Flip), $5487 (Flop),
or $4587 (Flip Flop). She chose to Flip, and shoulda
Flopped.
Next, Betty takes her place on stage after capturing a
set of his & her Hippo golf clubs ($798). Her game: Race
Game for a Riverside dinette, a Horizon Fitness T64HR
treadmill, a popcorn cart, and a Gladiator modular gear
box. The Tags: $480, $1149, $1599, $2070. During Rich's
description, Betty was asking if she should walk over
and place the tags. Bob told her to RUN! So, what did
she do? Walked. She managed to get two placements:
2070 1599 480 1149 (1 right with :27 left)
1599 2070 1149 480 (1 right with :00 left)
What did she get? The least
expensive prize, the Gladiator gear box.
Let's close out the first half. Contestant Anita
Rodriguez, after not knowing what she bid $800 on,
claimed a Pulaski copper 3-panel screen ($1197). Having
to whip the Turntable back around to see it, after she
got to the stage, Bob quipped, "Anita is living proof
that on 'The Price is Right,' you don't have to know
what you're doing." On that note, she played Pathfinder
(uh oh) for a Ford Mustang V6 Coupe Deluxe. Alright,
here's how she did. She got the first number, a 2. Her
swag items were a CD tower ($18/$30), an espresso
machine ($65/$81), and a rechargable shaver ($23/$39).
Here's the full board setup:
5 4 0 4 9
3 5 1 7 2
8 6[2]0 4
9 3 8 6 1
1 4 7 3 5
(Setup courtesy Golden-road.net)
So, she steps to the 0. Nope. She goes for the CD Tower.
$18? Nope. Alright, let's try the espresso machine for
$65. Got that one. Step to the 6? Nope. Shaver at $39?
Yep. Now, here's where it gets interesting. She steps to
the 1, gets it right. Steps to the 7, gets IT right.
Steps to the 4, and gets THAT right. Will this be the
"most spectacular Pathfinder win"? $21,740 or $21,749?
She goes for the 0...MRRRRRRRRP. However, Anita did make
it to the Showcases with only 50¢.
0/3 for the first half. SOMETHING needs to spark. Sailor
Ryan Watts took away a Halex family game room AND the
$500 bonus for a perfect $1000 bid. His quickie game:
The Bar for an Aico curio cabinet ($1099) and Taye drum
set with Sabian cymbals ($2139). First off, which one
would YOU pick? He went with the drums; ARP $2639 ($500
diff). Curio cabinet ARP $1999, $900 difference. Still a
shutout.
How about another officer of the seas? Maritime academy
student Jose Schloessman (needed the Closed Captioning
for that one) picked up a Molokini clear bottom Kayak
($1795) and played Card Game for a Pontiac G6. With a
difference of $2000, he drew only 6 cards to take his
bid to $16,000. ARP of the car: $20,655 with a
difference of $4655. Not even close.
*Sniff, sniff* I smell a skunk around the corner. OK,
remember Miranda? She was the first one called down.
She's gone thru 5 bidding rounds. In the 6th, she gets a
Sklar Peppler sofa, valued at $1185. She had a shot at
the magical pie that is Now....or Then (Aug. 1998) for a
$6495 Beachcomber hot tub. Starting off with a wrong
call ($1.99 Altoids Now), she bounced back with two
right (79¢ Pringles Now, $2.99 Jif Now), she got a wrong
call on Yuban coffee ($5.69 Now). Bob initially thought
it was over, then saw the CARNATION MALTED MILK marked
$4.39 on the bottom wedge. Her call: Now, and MIRANDA is
the HERO of THE HOUR!!
Making it to the Showcase with 95¢, Jose is the Top
Winner with Anita as the Runner-Up. The first Showcase
threw together a Broyhill King bedroom with the Royal
Duchess mattress from Comfortaire, a collection of ski
parkas, and a Yamaha SX Viper Snowmobile. Jose passed it
off so Anita could bid $20,000.
Showcase #2 gave us the trials and tribulations of Shana
Shoulda-coulda-woulda. Two trips in this one; a 5-night
to Washington, DC and a 6-night to London WITH English
Breakfast; and a Hi Lo telescoping travel trailer.
Jose's bid: $22,000.
Jose's Showcase: $27,461 for a difference of $5461.
Anita's Showcase: $17,349, and over she goes.
Jose walks off with his classmates with $29,256.
STATS: 1/6; $42,364

What's your "Guilty
Pleasure?" I won't tell you mine...but I will recap what
happened on Wheel of Fortune on Tuesday!
The $1,000 Tossup is THING. Social worker Tanya Galloway
quizzically solves MASSAGE TABLE for $1,000. Jill
McGlinsh from Michigan is a 1st grade teacher. Judd
Littleton is a law student from Dallas, Texas who at 1
yr old was in a commercial, playing a trumpet naked in a
bathtub!
The $2,000 Tossup is FICTIONAL PLACE. Tanya is up to
$3,000 with SNOOPY'S DOGHOUSE. And we add a nice trip to
Rome at the Aleph Hotel (of the Boscolo Luxury Hotel
Chain) with airfare provided by American Airlines worth
$8,986. The category is ON THE MAP. Tanya starts. She
hits Bankrupt on her first spin...over to Jill. She hits
and picks up the Free Spin...she misses a vowel, but
uses the Free Spin. She misses again, over to Judd. He
hits Bankrupt...back to Tanya. She hits the $1,000 Mrs.
Fields Gift Certificate. She solves THE CZECH REPUBLIC
for $1,200. With everything...it's been all Tanya with
$5,200 in cash,
cookies and milk!
The jackpot round is sponsored by Tums Smoothies Cocoa
and Cream Antacid Tablets. The category is FUN AND
GAMES...Jill starts. She hits the Jackpot Wedge on her
first spin...but of course can't solve. She hits the
$3,500 wedge and can't capitalize. Over to Judd...he
hits Lose A Turn. Over to Tanya. She hits the Rome Trip
and picks it up. Next Spin, she has to give it back with
a Bankrupt...over to Jill. She misses...back to Judd. He
solves EARNING A BLACK BELT IN KARATE for $2,300 and he
is on the board with some tough luck on the wheel.
The mystery round prize is $10,000 and the category is
ON THE MENU...and it's a PRIZE PUZZLE...Judd starts. He
loses $2,050 on Bankrupt...over to Tanya who
misses...Jill hits 2 $3,500 D's worth $7,000. She solves
SIDE ORDER OF SPICY GUACAMOLE for $9,250. And you can
order it on your trip to Mexico. It's a trip to the
Pueblo Bonito Rose Hotel in Cabo San
Lucas, Mexico with airfare provided by Mexicana
Airlines. It's worth $5,500. And if you have the SPIN ID
of RS08288 you are off to Cabo! That round puts her in
the lead with $14,750 in cash and Mexico Trip.
The $3,000 Tossup is LIVING THING. Tanya misses and Jill
adds to her lead with SANDPIPER. She has $17,750 and
starts this round which is OCCUPATION. She hits
Bankrupt...over to Judd. He hits a $5,000 N...but we go
into the FINAL SPIN...$1,300 a letter tonight. And Jill
seals her win with COSMETIC SURGEON for $2,600. She wins
with $20,350 in cash and prizes. Judd leaves with
$2,300. And Tanya leaves with $5,200 in cash and cookies
for her daughter Mariah...who she said hello to!
I really want Jill to go
away in a new 2006 Pontiac Solstice...that convertible
is hot! But I wouldn't be unhappy if she hit cash
either. She lands on the 4th 0 in $100,000. Her category
tonight is PHRASE. With the RSTLNE we have:
_ E _ R _ N _
T _ _ _ _ T S
DGPO are her choices and we have:
_ E _ R _ N G
T _ O _ _ T S
If you have two jobs, you are WEARING TWO HATS.
Unfortunately, she did lose the Solstice. But she leaves
with $20,350 in cash and trip to Mexico! |
