The Ultimate Showdown
April 28

Twelve gamers have united with one common goal... to become the face of the World Cyber Games. With that comes $100,000, the ultimate Samsung electronics package, and the title of WCG Ultimate Gamer. After last week's Gauntlet, we are down to three... Robert "Prod1gy X" Paz, Mark "applesauce" Smith, and Jamal "Zophar321" Mickens. At the end of the hour, one life will be changed forever as he is crowned... WCG's Ultimate Gamer.

We pick up where we left off last week, with Robert moving on to the finale. The player with the second-most kills and joining Robert in the finale....  is MARK.

Jamal does have $1000 and the respect of his competitors... but for him... it's GAME OVER.

And then... there were two. But in the end, there will only be one.

The next day, the final two rest up. Mark says he busted his tail to be where he is. Robert says that it's crazy how they played up to this point.

They walk into the game room to discover... loved ones waiting. Mark's girlfriend Sara and Robert's mother Marta. Both get the encouragement that they needed to come to terms with what's at stake.

But first, they're treated to breakfast. Sara says that Mark hates to lose, while Marta says that her son is just in it to prove that this is his dream and that he can profit from it. They're both motivating factors.

Back on the roof, players meet Hannah and Joel one last time, where they learn about their final challenge. They will compete in three different games in three different genres. The player with the most points is the champion. Think of it as a high-stakes version of Starcade, only instead of taking home a toy-robot, you're taking home $100,000.

The games will be...

- SOULCALIBUR IV (Namco Bandai for PS3/Xbox 360)
- SHAUN WHITE SNOWBOARDING (Ubisoft for multiplatforms)
- GEARS OF WAR 2 (Microsoft for Xbox 360)

They will be played in no particular order, and they will not know the point values in each game until they face off in the finale.

Before they go, they have one more surprise... the chorus of the eliminated. They go on to say how proud they are of Robert and how surprised they were of Mark. He likes being the underdog.

Each finalist will choose one former competitor to help strategize for the final challenge. Robert chooses first... Swoozie. He needs help of Soulcalibur IV. Mark chooses Jamal. He's also in need of help in Soulcalibur IV. Ciji won 15 Soulcalibur tournaments, but let's see how this turns out.

We have the whole day to practice. Swoozie tells Robert to keep it simple, while Jamal gives him a few tips on how to get the upper hand on his opponents.

Next in practicing on Shaun White, Swoozie tells Robert to use the rails to his advantage.

Both finalists are experts in shooters, so when it comes time to practice for Gears of War, it's all about refining. Mark knows he's good. He also knows that Rob's good.

The gamers meet on the roof one last time for a little firewalk. Mark didn't think he was going to be here, but in the end, they're there for a reason, and they wish each other only the best.

Welcome to the day of the final challenge. Robert thinks of this as going to war. Mark says that there is more at stake than just going home. Both are as focused as possible. Both bags are packed. Both want to win the contract, the title, the presidents and.... THE BRAGGING RIGHTS.

Let's go to the stadium!

THE ULTIMATE SHOWDOWN

For the last time, let's go to the tale of the tape...

ROBERT PAZ VS MARK SMITH
Bronx, NY Home turf Tahlequah, OK
Prod1gy X Handle applesauce
First Person Shooters Specialty First Person Shooters

At the end of action tonight, one person will win $100,000, the ultimate Samsung electronics package, and the title of the WCG Ultimate Gamer.

Shake hands... to your places!

Round 1 is worth one point. Round 2 is worth two points. Round 3 is worth three points. The player with the most points will earn the right to call themselves champion. In the event of a tie, there will be a sudden death round to settle the score.

The first game is... SHAUN WHITE SNOWBOARDING. You will be racing the Park City course working tricks and getting to the bottom in the fastest time. Both are critical to your final score.  The player with the highest score wins 1 point for his overall total.

And.... GAME ON!

We're playing the King of the Hill mode on Park City. We're looking for a good balance between fancy tricks and getting to the finish first. Almost every extreme sports title is all about performing the sickest stunts without taking a fall... as Robert does to start. The more tricks you pull off, the bigger your multiplier. And in this game, your multiplier fills as you perform tricks. You want to keep that gauge going in order to increase your multiplier. The key is big tricks. You do not want to repeat the same tricks over and over again, because it will decrease in score. Robert needs to increase his multiplier in order to stand a chance. Both players are neck and neck and both will cross the finish line first if this keeps up. Mark keeps his 3x multiplier through the entire race and in the end, finishes first.

End of round 1:
Mark: 1
Robert: 0

Round 2 is... GEARS OF WAR 2. Players will play the execution mode on the Pavilion map for a best-of-nine series. First player to five wins 2 points toward their overall score.

And.... GAME ON!

Mark is playing as a Locust Horde, while Robert is a Cog soldier. Both are using a "roadie run", running on the map while keeping your head low. Both players are locked onto each other. Robert has Mark down, but he must finish him off to get credit for the kill. He does. That's kill #1 for Robert. The battle continues and Mark logs his first kill. Robert trips up Mark on a grenade to get his second kill. Mark answers with a kill of his own. Mark forgets to finish off Robert, and he gets up to make him pay for it. Robert leads, 3 to 2. Robert baits his opponent AGAIN, and gets another kill off. And a cluster bomb gives Robert the game, 5 kills to 2.

End of round 2:
Mark: 1
Robert: 2

Which means that the title will be decided with... SOULCALIBUR IV. Nine rounds in the Imperial Garden. First to five wins 3 points for their overall score, enough to put you over the top. Simply put, last man standing takes home all the cheese.

Mark will play as Mitsurugi, while Robert plays as Maxi. This... is for cash money. GAME ON!

Robert starts out strong, and knocks Mark out of the ring. Robert does it again. It's 2-0 Robert. Robert gets the hat trick on a knockout. And another! Robert is one win away from glory. But Mark notches his first KO... and his second.. He's using that superior sword length... and Mark is mounting a huge comeback. A KO AND a RING OUT. We are tied at four. This is what we all came to see. The crowd is on its feet. After eight grueling episodes, the title will be decided on one final bout. Mark is going out guns a-blazin', and it looks like... Mark for the win!! if it is indeed official. It IS!

Ladies and gentlemen, the WCG Ultimate Gamer.... is.... MARK SMITH!

Mad props to Robert for not letting up one inch, but for now... it's GAME OVER.

The other gamers return to the stage to rally around their champion. As well as Mark's girlfriend.

And that'll do it for us at Samsung Stadium. Let me leave you with a few words of wisdom from the creator of Mario and god of gaming Shigeru Miyamoto... "Video games are bad for you? That's what they said about rock'n'roll." Twelve gamers came, only one conquered. And hopefully this will not be the end for either the WCG or this competition.

Once again, congratulations to Mark Smith, the WCG Ultimate Gamer.
