Round of 9 (or "The Great American Mashup")
June
30

We're kicking into the last day of June. Summer is fast rising and "So You Think You Can Dance" heads into the top 9. In all, there are 3 girls and 6 guys. The odds are somewhat stacked with a disadvantage, but anything goes. Let's get into it.

First off, Adechike gets to team up with Lauren do to a hip-hop routine to "Hot-N-Fun" by N.E.R.D. w/ Nelly Furtado. After throwing away their briefcases, they did some breakdancing. The clothing projectlies were thrown off a bit and Lauren fake pushed him out. Adechike lifted Lauren to the floor and did a quick split and both took their breifcases out.

What Adam said: Adechike brought out a new side of him.
What I said: Adechieke took it hard!

Next is Ashley tagging with Ade doing contemporary to "Cosmic Love" by Florence + The Machine. Hard to tell there was some frockling about including an ending with dimmed lights.

What Mia said: I loved the concept abotu trust.
What I said: They took that concept to death.

Another routine on the way, but first, we hear from Billy with a very flexible solo.

Now up is Robert dancing with Courtney to a contemporary routine to "Xxxo" by M.I.A. Pretty quirky. Robert was shirtless while Courtney wore something to cover it up. It was very complex to see it throughout the routine.

What Mia said: He needs to take ballet classes for better movement.
What I said: Robert, Contemporary is a bit harder than ballet.

Here's another solo. This time it's from Jose, a b-boy dancer.

Melinda gets to show off her Colombian heritage as she dances with Pascha to do a salsa. Melinda pretended to take off her shoe, but it didn't work. She then tried to go under Pascha, but countered it with a fall down. That too, didn't work. She then did a flip over, and IT worked. Pascha jumped over her, but almost got knocked off. Both did arm work and even more later on.

What Mia said: She struggled and had pigeon-toed.
What I said: She's not helping in this competition.

A pair of solos go to Kent first for a flip sequence and then Alex, who does the techinical stuff.

We move ahead with Lauren & Neil dancing Broadway to "Let Me Entertain You" by Debbie Gibson. It says it in the graphic, but for statistical purposes, it's actually Deborah Gibson. We're just checking. Neil reads the paper and Lauren stops to tease her and throws Neil's hat out. Neil did some knee slides and Lauren took part of her dress off and Neil pretended to blow his nose with it. Lauren slinked halfway through Neil and we saw on the videotape a strap breaking off and she kissed him away to end it.

What Adam said: She was like Cyd Charrisse.
What I said: She nailed it despite a dress goof.

Ashley does her own solo. First, a but sultry, and then a bit harder.

Next comes Billy & Kathryn dancing contemporary to "Jar of Hearts" by Christina Perri. This routine does create stories and in it, it was about a boyfriend coming back from a breakup. There was emotion in this routine.

What Mia said: Stop thinking about technique and work on connection.
What I said: I think there were some moments in which the pair got a little seperated from them.

Robert gets ready for his solo. Look at his arms.

Now we have Jose dancing with Anya doing a samba to "Long Time" by Shakira. Anya danced on top of a table and jumped into Jose. After a bit of dancing, Anya went back to the table and soon after, Jose rolled over it. It was pretty fiery throught this routine.

What Nigel said: He has a magical charisma.
What I said: He can bring any trick to the table.

Here we go. It's another tap solo by Melinda Sullivan.

Now we have Kent & Allison dancing a jazz number to "Heartburn" by Alicia Keys. Both wanted to put a little sass into this routine, and they did.

What Adam said: He needs to lose the jazz face.
What I said: He wants to get serious.

Okay, 2 more solos come in, this time from Adecheike & Lauren.

And to wrap the puppy up, Alex & Twitch dance hip-hop to the chagrin of Tabitha & Napoleon. They set up in a psych's office and by the start of it, it gets a little serious, bu then.....it explodes! Pure dancing in its finest.

What Nigel said: It's emmy worthy.
What I said: It will be. Keep that up.

The month of June has come to a close, but we open up July tomorrow with an elimination you have to see to believe. Have a good July, everyone!
