Round of 5
December 6

Last week, more skating and more injuries. Sean Young was the first casualty put on ice, leaving five to skate for your votes. Now they've been counted. But who'll face the deep freeze THIS WEEK?

This week, the theme is... LOVE. And there is certainly no love to be lost among our teams.  You'd think for a moment...

You know the show's going to start badly when your star partner doesn't show up. That's the case with Keauna McLaughlin, who is without Brandon Mychal Smith on the entry way. After their near-perfect program last week... he's not here. We'll keep tabs on the situation. Meanwhile, the OTHER injured skater, Brooke Castile, will be performing with Johnny stitches and all.

But first, the technical requirements this week... a jump. To impress the judges, you'll have to land cleanly ON ONE FOOT. They'll look for speed, attack, height, and the love story... passion, connection, and all of that.

First up, Rebecca Budig & Fred Palascak needed to show more passion and seduction. Well this week is a good enough week to do it. They opt for the shirt-grabbing type argument. To that end, Fred visits the AMC set to see how she gets her Greenlee on. At practice, Rebecca twists her wrist. She's told to put it on ice and rest it. No rest for the injured, we're afraid, as they head to their program to "Hot N Cold" by Katy Perry

What they say: Johnny thought that she was a natural and that the jump was difficult. Dick saw a lot of confidence. The lifts were sensational. Laurieann said that she trusted the choreo to tell a great story.

What we say: They definitely tell the story and get the connection off the ground. The jump was a little bit weak, but she lands flush, and it's all good.

And as the couple heads to the kiss-and-cry, we remind you that there are TWO scores, one for technical merit, and one for artistic expression.

SCORES (technical/artistic):
Laurieann: 9/9
Johnny: 8/8
Dick: 8/8
TOTAL: 50/60

Next, it's Bethenny Frankel vs. Ethan Burgess vs. the judges... ROUND 3! Last week, she was still stiff as a board. "I'm sorry, America. I don't care what the judges think. I care what YOU think." So what will we think after we see the family show up for support? They'll have to do better than "Getting through it" if they want to survive. They'll perform to "Halo" by Beyonce.

What they say: Dick likes that she trusts her partner, but she doesn't trust herself. She's gotta finish what she started and take charge. Laurieann called it "heavenly" and "angelic", seeing a vulnerability (for once). Johnny said that she was better AND she had presence.

What we say: She showed emotion ONE TIME. When it was OVER.

SCORES (technical/artistic):
Laurieann: 6/7
Johnny: 6/6
Dick: 5/6
TOTAL: 36/60

Vince Neil & Jennifer Wester comes into this round in a familiar place... last. Hopefully they'll end this program not on his behind. If practice is any indication... To that end, Jenn takes Vince to a real life skating school. He's learned more from the kids than he learned from Jenn this week. But will that help him as they perform to "Beautiful" by James Blunt?

What they say: Laurieann cites Vince's showmanship and musicality. Johnny says great job. Dick sees the talent in Vince.

What we say: A nice connection between the two, though it felt like putting a turtle and a hamster together to see what a hamstle looks like. But kudos for not landing on your bum. That's a victory.

SCORES (technical/artistic):
Laurieann: 6/7
Johnny: 5/6
Dick: 5/7
TOTAL: 36/60. Tied with the Ice Queen.

Now to "bang-up" #1. Last week, Jonny Moseley & Brooke Castile wowed. This week, they're heading skiing. Well, if there ever is "Skiing with the Stars", we know where to go. The point was going through what Jonny went through. Unfortunately, it turns out that Brooke is good at everything she does... Mm-hmm... Now for forbidden love. The artistic is going to be key. Their program is to "Cosmic Love" by Florence & the Machine.

What they say: Johnny thought it was "insane beautiful" and improving every week. Dick thought there was a much-improved expressiveness. He wants back straight. Laurieann thought that the best part was that it felt like the story.

What we say: Brave going back on the ice like that. They were connected from go to end, and they worked through whatever issued they had a tpractice. Good job.

SCORES (technical/artistic):
Laurieann: 8/9
Johnny: 9/9
Dick: 7/9
TOTAL: 51/60. We have a new leader!

Finally, it's the moment we've been waiting for/dreading for the last hour or so. Is Brandon Mychal Smith going to perform with Keauna McLaughlin tonight? No. Last week, they got the first 9 of the season, putting them in contention. Over the last week, they focused more on the story.. and to help them, Brandon called up his homies Kyle Massey & Lacey Schwimmer from that show that tapes across the hall at TV City. Now due to his absence, the rules state that the judges will be scoring on a tape of the last completed rehearsal. That was yesterday to Avril Lavigne's "Keep Holding On".

Straight to the scores then.

SCORES (technical/artistic):
Laurieann: 8/9
Johnny: 5/6
Dick: 5/6
TOTAL: 39/60

Now to the leaderboard....

51 - Jonny & Brooke
50 - Rebecca & Fred
39 - Brandon & Keauna*
36 - Bethenny & Ethan
36 - Vince & Jennifer
*rehearsal judgment

Quite the gap between top 2 and bottom 3. One couple will simply find it too much to bear and will be voted OUT of the competition.... right after Tanith shows everyone how it's done with her partner Ben Agosto. They're skating to "There's a Place For Us" by Carrie Underwood from the movie "The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader".

Now for the reason why we're all here, baby. Dim the lights. Cue the serious music... Here. We. Go.

Jonny & Brooke... SAFE.

Rebecca & Fred... YOU TOO ARE SAFE.

Brandon & Keauna... YOU.... ARE SAFE.

That means that Bethenny & Ethan and Vince & Jennifer are the bottom 2.

The second pair leaving on Skating with the Stars is...

...

VINCE & JENNIFER. He thought it was a great experience, but it's all over but the (kiss-and-)crying.

Down to four. This time next week, we'll be down to three. From Television City in Hollywood.. GOOD NIGHT!
