"Chapter 5" - March 29

We started with 10 women. We are down to four - and the drama in the house is seething as Katie can't get along with anyone else. Cecile is looking for her confidence, but Katie, who isn't going to start helping her competition, would be more than happy to see her go.

The next challenge starts with this phrase - 'Dying is easy, comedy is hard.' All of the women cringe, as none of them have any comic experience. The teacher is Michelle Danner, who tells the women that they have to be able to make a fool of themselves. The making a fool of themselves include clown shoes and clown noses as they read from a screen play.

Cecile and Katie get praise, while Mercedes is being accused of not going for it. This starts a comedy of errors for Mercedes, who's having vocal issues and emotional issues. Michelle goes further and accuses Mercedes of being passive. Michelle hits a nerve and Mercedes isn't getting funnier...only angrier.

They do 'As If', which is a take off of Scenes from a Hat from Whose Line is it Anyway. We see Mercedes continue to struggle. This turns into an intrinsic scope from Michelle to Mercedes, who is pissed and is tearing up. Michelle tells her to either sit down and stop, or get out of her head and play a character. She decides to play, much to the ire of Katie, who would love to see the judges see this and boot Mercedes.

We see who the best in class is, and the only thing that everyone agrees on is that Katie isn't going to win. The reward this time is also a dinner meeting with Luke Greenfield, who directed the Animal. Michelle says that the winner is....Merce...(only kidding. That's MY attempt at humor)... Michelynne! She gets the prize, because Michelle says that she was having fun.

As for the Screen test this week, the comic scene comes from Friends, where the friends find out that Chandler and Monica are getting married. The actresses will be choosing from themselves - but they can't use people they have already worked with, In addition, they will be doing this in front of a live audience.

Katie's options are Cecile...and Mercedes. Katie doesn't want to work with Mercedes, and vice-versa, so Katie plays with Cecile and Michelynne plays with Mercedes. The scene is the last thing on her mind, though, as she has the meeting with Greenfield. They talk about her life in a hostel, and she says that nothing can stop her from winning the competition. Luke is impressed with her drive, and he thinks that she may possibly have a future.

While Michelynne has stars in her eyes, the rest of the women have daggers in their hands. Mercedes is figuring out what tole to pick from - and she isn't waiting for Michelynne to come back. Meanwhile, Katie and Cecile have decided that Cecile wants to be Rachel and Katie wants to be Phoebe - but then Cecile wants to switch roles and Katie wants none of that. Cecile finally gives in, adding that she will not be taken advantage of by Cecile. Well, Cecile - you picked your partner. Michelynne comes in to hear both of them arguing and she quickly runs to her suite.

The next morning, Michelle meets with both groups. Cecile and Katie are first, and it's very evident that Cecile isn't happy. Mercedes doesn't want to do anything with Michelle, and she calls Mercedes on it. They both get into it, and Michelynne interrupts both of them and wonders if they can actually have time to work. Now it's Mercedes and Michelynne's turn to get into it and Michelle now has to step in. They both finally get into the script and even Mercedes admits that it was sort of helpful.

We get final thoughts before we start the play. Michelynne is concerned that not-so-confident Mercedes is her partner, while Mercedes thinks that if Katie sticks around after this episode that something is wrong. Based on what I've seen so far, you're not going to like the end of this episode...

That night, the women enter The Comedy Store and prepare to start the Screen Test. As they go into the audience, the women see that they have three extra guests - Vivica, Joseph and Faye, the judges. They will deliver the verdict live, in front of the audience.

Mercedes is trying to get her nerves down, and based on her work, it didn't show. She wasn't very good, while Michelynne carried the scene. When they were done, even Mercedes knew it and as they were hugging, she told her. Next up is Cecile and Katie - and I didn't like either of them. The audience agrees, as there wasn't much there. Katie thought that Cecile wasn't good, and she couldn't play off of it. Apparently, there wasn't much to play off on either side, and Mercedes is thrilled with the lack of audience feedback.

But do the judges agree? Michelynne goes first. Joseph calls her young, green, and sometimes an emotional mess - but she's funny. Vivica was shocked and pleasantly surprised, but Faye wanted to see more focus. Joe says she was likable - but to not sit on her laurels.

Mercedes says that she has to accept her fate. Joe says that she made it look hard, Vivica says that she didn't take the comedy to the next level and Faye is wondering if she can cut it.

Katie gets to go next. Vivica didn't like the ad-lib, but it did work. Joseph is harsher, saying that he keeps having to bail her out every week because someone is less talented than she is (adding that he wants to get rid of 2 people tonight), and while Faye said that it didn't work tonight. Mercedes may get her wish tonight, as Katie even told them that she may be leaving...

...until Cecile is there. Faye says that she let them down, adding that Phoebe and Rachel want their couch back. Vivica disagrees and called her funny, adding that she worked the audience well. Faye and Vivica get into it and we leave it to Joe to break the tie. Joseph sides with...Faye, but Vivica still sticks up for her. Vivica says that they don't understand comedy. I don't think they understand a lot of things...

...the only thing the judges agree on is that Michelynne wowed them. They aren't thrilled with Mercedes, but she has potential and they keep her around. It's down to Katie or Cecile, and if it's 2 against 1, Vivica is going to lose this one.

The women go up for the final verdict. As the women hold their breath, the judges speak...Faye says that this person doesn't have the ability yet, Joe still wants to get rid of 2 people, and Vivica says that the performance tonight doomed the person eliminated. That person is...Cecile. She thanks everyone for the ability to learn a lot and hugs everyone as she leaves. She says that it's hard and hopes that this will be her path and passion.

Mercedes, Michelynne and Katie are the last three - and next week is the final episode. Mercedes says that she came there to be the Starlet, Michelynne says that this is a dream come true to win the whole thing, and Katie says that she has survived everyone being against her (just. shut. up.). Who wins, I think Michelynne has the inside track, as she is the target audience for the One Tree Hill audience and is the most likable person left (you don't really want the villainess to get a good part, do you?). Tune in 7 days to see the finale.
