"Week Five": August 7-10, 2005
Was it just me, or was I
having an Extreme Dodgeball flashback?
So why do I say this? Because we saw the bottom three
live - from a taped show. Just a reminder, the bottom
three when the show ended was Deanna, Brandon and
Jessica. Of course, this is a blatant bias, because by
telling the audience this, you'll get people who
supported these people to go in. Sure enough, as the
night progresses, two more people during the night
joined them in the bottom three - Suzie and JD.
Dave said that he was surprised that Suzie joined them
into the bottom three. The band talks to them quickly,
then shifts judgment from them to the people who
impressed them - the acoustic Marty and the redeemed Ty.
Ty gets to do his encore, and it sounds pretty darn
good.
Back to business. Of course, you can't have 5 people in
the bottom three. The two people who escaped the bottom
were...JD and Deanna. Hence, Suzie (who's been there
before) joins Brandon (who was just there last week) and
Jessica (who can pretty much call that place her second
home) and they will also be giving encore performances -
but for the wrong reason.
Garry and Jon from INXS will be joining the band.
Jessica will be joining them first with 'Disappear',
which may be a very appropriate song. Jessica puts on a
very good performance. I will say this - I think with
her third time at the bottom will probably be her last,
but she sang well enough that she could escape should
someone else royally screw it up.
Brandon hopes that he won't be that person as he sings
'Don't Lose Your Head'. Unfortunately, that's exactly
what he does. On the first time around the song, he
stops singing and he ad libs. On the second verse, after
the chorus, he scats a lot and he creates a brand new
song for us. I don't know what the lyrics are, but I do
know that the lyrics that he does sing are not the
lyrics that are in the song. Oops.
INXS was VERY surprised to see Suzie at the bottom. She
sings 'Bitter Tears' and barring her making up her own
song, she won't be eliminated. Actually, based on what
Brandon did, she probably could make up her own song
about horny rabbits and still be safe. She does no such
thing and she does put up a very nice performance. The
audience went nuts afterwards - but then again, this
audience also went nuts for Brandon's best impression of
Milli Vanilli.
Let's see - we know that Suzie is in no danger. We know
that Jessica has now been in the bottom three a bunch of
times, but she will get saved due to Brandon's song
mutilation. INXS is going to make it shorter this
evening (Hallelujah). They send Suzie back to the group,
they send Jessica back up to the group and they send
Brandon to the showers. Brandon playfully yells at them
and asks how they could give him 'Don't Lose Your Head'?
Well, that song was appropriate, wasn't it?
Dave says that Brandon is going to be missed. Brandon
thanks INXS for their help and we have the usual band
love for the departed contestant. AwwwwBleagh.
So where does everyone stand?
Top 4 - Ty, Jordis, Marty, Mig
Mid 2 - JD, Deanna
Bottom 2 - Suzie and Jessica (who has been there for 30
years now)
We'll have more of my opinions on what INXS did with the
ratings on Friday. We'll have more of this competition
next week. |
