Last time on MasterChef, the game begin with
a twist... Someone was going home at the end of the Mystery Box. That
some was Astrid. Then came the Elimination Test, which challenged your
prowess on ground meat. Whitney couldn't cut the meatloaf, so she too
was sent packing. Now only 20 remain as we head to the field for the
first time. And it's all-out war.
ROUND 1
TEAM CHALLENGE: Feed Our Troops
Two hundred miles from the MasterChef Kitchen, our cooks are now in the
Mojave Desert, where some serious stuff is about to go down.
Francis B will captain the Red Team. So
he has to pick, right now. Cutter... Tyler... Victoria... Francis L...
Willie... Christine... Elizabeth... Ahran... and Kira. That's the Red
Team. Everyone else, you're the Blue Team. Choose a captain NOW! They
pick Daniel. Now it's time to get to the mission!
MISSION BRIEFING
FORT IRWIN, CALIFORNIA, USA
MISSION: FEEDING 500 SOLDIERS IN THE FIELD
- ONE GRILLED MEAT
- ONE SIDE
- ONE SAVORY SAUCE
TAT: 2 HOURS PREP, 2 HOURS SERVICE
#FeedOurTroops
Red Team goes with a dry rub pork chop
with a cranberry apple sauce with bacon mac & cheese. The Blue Team...
isn't that decisive. But ultimately they decide with barbecue chicken
with a side of potato salad.
Cutter takes charge of the Red Team's
chops, while Stephani is worried that the chicken on the Blue side is
not done. No worries, Stephani... it IS raw.
The Reds had to think of something else
because their bacon mac fell flat. Actually it separated into a cheesy
glop. Quick cole slaw should be ready by the time the cavalry arrive.
And speaking of... HERE! COME! THE DRUMS!
Each of the soldiers will taste each dish and vote for a favorite.
RED TEAM: Double Cut Pork Chop with Apple
Chutney and Coleslaw
BLUE TEAM: Grilled Chicken with BBQ Sauce & Potato Salad
And the chief problem with the Red
meat... it's RAW. Can they pull it back? Only if they butterfly the pork
PROTIP: if a chop is thicker than your
arm, you BUTTERFLY IT.
Time for the vote... FALL IN!
And by a count of 329 to 171.... the
winners... THE RED TEAM! Way to bring it back!
ROUND 1
PRESSURE TEST: Blueberry Pie
Three of the cooks from yesterday will be safe from this test. As
captain, Daniel will decide which three. He decides Christian, Gordon,
and Dan.
The rest of the team is going to
prepare.... Blueberry Pie. It should have a crunchy crust and a filling
full of color and flavor. And you have 75 minutes to make it.
Jaimee's pie had orange liqueur. It
earned her her pie ink today.
Elise's pie with mascarpone had raw
pastry. It was like eating "a mouthful of sand".
Jordan's pie had lemon zest and brandy.
It's a little sloppy.
Courtney's pie had Meyer lemon zest. It
has great color all around.
Leslie's pie has cinnamon and ginger.
It's like an apple pie and a blueberry pie crashed together and was
delicious.
Stephani had a pecan crust. It's
undercooked and so sweet.
Daniel's pie is last. It had ginger. It's
starting to fall apart. The taste.... very balanced.
BOTTOM 4:
- Daniel
- Jordan
- Stephani
- Elise
Daniel & Jordan... were way off the mark.
But the worst pie belonged to... STEPHANI.
That leaves 19 to take on the challenge
of the next round. But what will happen when your Mystery Box is alive
and kicking?
