Semifinals: Mokel/Xie/Golden
July 28
Last April, 15 of America's best and brightest teenagers descended upon Sony Pictures Studios in LA to compete in the Jeopardy! Teen Tournament. Now only 9 remain in the hunt for one of three spots in the $75,000. But there are no second chances. It's win or go home.

Second place gets $25,000. Third gets $15,000. Semifinalists who make it to week 2 will receive $10,000. All money will be determined, as always, by how far the players go in the tournament.

Video Daily Double: $1000 Let's Visit DC. Sydney has the lead with $2400 to the others' $1000 a pop. She bets $1600 on this: though he didn't even live to see 1777, he is honored with a statue for his contribution to the American Revolution. "Who is Nathan Hale?" Is right for $4000.

Daily Double #1: $800 Chemical Elements. Sydney has a $3600 lead, $7800 over Jeff's $4200. She bets $2200 on this: the Roman numeral for 100 is also the symbol for this element. "What is carbon?" That would be right, but xenon sends her back to $5600.

Daily Double #2: $2000 Stamps. Jeff just took the lead with $10,200 to William's $10,000. He bets the level on this: a stamp commemorating the War of 1812 features the Battle of this lake. "What is Lake Erie?" Right for $12,200!

At the end of Double Jeopardy!...

$6,400 $12,200 $10,000
Sydney Jeff William

The line according to The Book at J-archive.com...

- Sydney wins if... she bets $2000 or less on a triple stumper, while the other two players bet against each other.
- William wins if... he bets between $2801 and $3599 and is correct, while  Jeff is wrong.
- Jeff wins if... he bets $7801 and is correct.

Final Jeopardy! category: HISTORIC TRANSPORTS

ITS PRINCIPAL MAST IS AT ARLINGTON, ITS FOREMAST IS AT THE NAVAL ACADEMY & A MONUMENT TO IT, RESTORED IN 2013, IS LOCATED IN HAVANA

Correct response: what is the USS Maine?

Sydney's response: what is the USS... (illegible)? WRONG. Wager: $6400. Total: $0.
William's response: what is the Maine? RIGHT. Wager: $7801. Total: $17,801.
Jeff's response: what is the USS Maine? RIGHT. Wager: $7801. Total: $20,001.

FINALIST: Jeff Xie

It was a bad day for Sydney to have a bad day, but that's what happened during the Double Jeopardy! round, as she tumbled from first to third while her opponents duked it out for first. Jeff ultimately becomes the victor thanks to a late-game Daily Double and will compete for $75,000 on Friday.

But who'll join him? Find out tomorrow.
