Preliminaries: Oakwood/Princeton/Berkeley
February 12

It's that time of the year again, when many a college senior is ready to take on the world. Today, and every day for the next two weeks, 15 college students are going to take each other on for $100,000 and a possible $250,000 seat in the next Tournament of Champions in Jeopardy's Winter Classic, the College Championship.

What challenges await the brightest collegians in the country? How will they rise to meet them? The answers to these questions could be worth $100,000 for the winner, $50,000 for the first runner-up, and $25,000 for the second runner-up. Semifinalists are guaranteed $10,000, while everyone who competes gets $5000. Any and all prizes depend on how far up a player moves in the standings.

Whitney Thompson and Ben Juster are into the semis. One of these three will join them.

Daily Double #1: $1200 Time Management. Kevin has $4400 to Terry's $8800. Kenesha has $6400. Kevin bets $2400 on this: it's what the US Naval Observatory calls a timepiece regulated by the natural vibration frequencies of cesium particles. "What is an atomic clock?" Right for $6800.

Daily Double #2: $2000 Hail to the Chief. Terry is on the verge of running out the category with $12,800 to Kenesha and Kevin's $6400 a piece. Terry bets $3000 on this: this soldier served only 16 months as the 1st president who had never been in Congress or the Continental Congress. "Who is Andrew Jackson?" No, it's Zachary Taylor, leaving him with $9800.

Final Jeopardy! category: BIBLE CHARACTERS

"TAKE CARE OF HIM," SAYS THE MAN CALLED THIS IN LUKE 10 AFTER GIVING MONEY TO AN INNKEEPER

Correct response: what is the Good Samaritan?

Kenesha's response: what is the Good Samaritan? CORRECT. Wager: $2200. Total: $4400.
Kevin's' response: what is the Good Samaritan? CORRECT. Wager: $4601. Total: $15,401.
Terry's response: what is the Good Samaritan? CORRECT. Wager: $2000. Total: $17,400.

SEMIFINALIST: Terry O'Shea

It was a head-to-head match between Terry and Kevin, but Terry had the stronger front game and the most to play with in the final. Don't count Kevin out, though, as his total keeps him in the running. Meanwhile, the two runners-up from Monday are going to get checks for $5000.

We will name your first two wild cards tomorrow.
