Chico: Hey everyone. Welcome to the first American Idol roundtable
recap of the season. Alongside Jason Block, I'm Chico Alexander... Last night, the top 13 took on R&B royalty for their first
challenge of the season, but one of them MAY BE DETHRONED TONIGHT. And this time, it's the guys... versus the girls.
Jason: One bottom guy, one bottom girl and the judges kick one of them
out.
Chico: That's basically what it amounts to. And if you ask me, it seems like "X Factor" done properly. And extreme closeup.
Jason: Lauren Alaina and Mary J. Blige will be singing.
Chico: We start with a Stevie Wonder megamedley, the first of the
season. As Gordon would say, "lip sucked". Except it isn't.
Jason: It's Live sucked :-)
Chico: Thank you. Well, it's ONE song. Last I checked, a medley was more than one
song. Granted, it's a good song, "Always." Well... it's a start. Okay, while we're on commercial time, let's talk about last
night, starting with the guys. One person in trouble, one person in the bottom. Go.
Jason: Colton in trouble - Jeremy Rosado in the Bottom. You?
Chico: Jermaine bottom, Jeremy trouble. Meanwhile, we have our first Ford Music Video... "Big Time" by
Peter Gabriel. The cast as giants in LA. And no giant robots to be found.
Jason: BTW...the Focus, the Fiesta and the 2013 Escape.
Chico: That latter being offered up on AmericanIdol.com. First up, Jessica, Elise, and Holly.
Jason: Elise should be in TROUBLE.
Chico: Jessica nailed "I Will Always Love You". Elise... not so much with "I'm Your Baby Tonight"
Jason: Hollie did the same with All the Man that I need.
Chico: I think Elise and Shannon get in trouble. And Jimmy thinks Elise is in trouble.
Jason: Me too.
Chico: Hollie had an advantage, but she delivered on the promise. And Jessica sang "I Will Always Love You". And in an idol first,
she nailed it. If you're going to be a bear, be a grizzly. Jimmy's hoping she doesn't flame out early. SERIOUS LIGHTS, SERIOUS MUSIC.... Jessica... is SAFE!
Jason: Duh.
Chico: Elise.... is in the bottom 3 girls.
Jason: Duh again. Guys time.
Chico: Going to the guys... Heejun, Jermaine, and Colton. Front and
center, maggots.
Jason: I see Colton going the bottom
Chico: Heejun sang "All in Love Is Fair". To his credit, it's a
softball song; this wasn't his best. Colton sang "Lately", which was also not his best. It was okay, but not his best. He deconstructed it. He needs to find out who he is. Jermaine did a bit of nothing with "Knocks Me Off My Feet". So all three had issues. I think Jermaine had the bigger issue in that he was brought
back, a, and b... he didn't really know who he was yet.
Jason: BTW...I like Jimmy in the Simon Role.
Chico: Me too. SL, SM. Colton... SAFE.
Jason: first mistake.
Chico: Heejun.... ALSO safe.
Jason: Thats right.
Chico: and I score my first points of the season. Ching ching. :-)
Jason: Ching. J-Lo. :-)
Chico: for Kohl's. She plays changeling.
Jason: Marc Anthony is f'ing INSANE for cheating on that.
Chico: And more J-Lo. She has a lot of money coming in.
Jason: She needs it for the alimony LOL.
Chico: Apparently J-Lo's Q'Viva was a success. I BEG TO DIFFER, SIR. Meanwhile, we have the first alum performance of the season with
"Georgia Peaches" ... from Georgia Peach Lauren Alaina.
Jason: Um...holy cow!
Chico: Yeah, still under 18, dude :-)
Jason: I know... I get it. But still....
Chico: But yeah, she's matured since last year and she's come a long way.
Jason: And I like her voice
Chico: Still has a long way to go. I mean, the song sounds a lot sexier than she is.
Jason: Name of the album "Wildflower" She is touring with Sugarland this summer
Chico: And Jason Aldean. In store now.
Jason: Pick it up. Good stuff.
Chico: Yes. Back to business. Erika, Shannon, and Skylar... Ryan would like an audience,
please.
Jason: Erika believes in Miracles.
Chico: Erika sold "I Believe in You and Me". And I believed in her.
Jason: so did I.
Chico: She turned nothing into something. She needs to focus more.
Jason: Oh Shannon...
Chico: And speaking of nothing... Shannon Magrane and "I Have Nothing". ... A propos. Chalk this one up to nerve.
Jason: How about no talent.
Chico: That too.
Jason: Except this girl has a ton of talent.
Chico: Skylar hit it with "Where Do Broken Hearts Go"
Jason: Skylar is a deep threat.
Chico: She's a really strong dark horse. And don't fault her nasally voice. Because that's her. SL, SM. Erika... is in the bottom 3. Someone has to be there. Joining her... Shannon Magrane.
Jason: I had Shannon and Elise didnt I : )
Chico: So Shannon, Erika, and Elise. Now, the guys. Phillip, Joshua, DeAndre, and ... Jeremy. First up, Joshua overdid "I Wish." It's good, but it's like "so what". Deandre was "Master Blaster"... which was weird, but I liked it. And did Steven say "Jamaican patois"?
Jason: Yes. Yes He did.
Chico: Phillip had "Superstition"... That's him the musician. Jeremy had a "Ribbon in the Sky"... I've heard it done better. I mean, Jeremy did not deliver on promise.
Jason: Nope. OMG. Jimmy agrees with Gordon....
Chico: What did G say? Hold on... results... Phillip is SAFE. Jeremy is in the bottom 3... Joshua joins the bottom.
Jason: I got 2 of the 3 guys too.
Chico: Me too. Erika... and Joshua... are SAFE. So I nail all four. Give it up one time for me.
Jason: UP TOP!
Chico: So. What did G say about Jeremy?
Jason: In the WLTI he predicted Jeremy going home
Chico: Ah
Jason: No real surprises here I think. And now...the Queen of New Jack Soul - Miss Mary J. Blige singing
WHY.
Chico: Now if you've never heard her cover of U2's "One"... dude.
Jason: My Life II...The Journey Continues (Act 1). Thats the name of the album
Chico: Thank you. Now to business. Steven says Jeremy deserves to leave. Your bottom guy... IS JEREMY. I like how Jermaine just said... "What's that card say?"
Jason: I got that one.
Chico: Your bottom girl... SHANNON? Err, no, ELISE. So either Elise or Jeremy is going home.
Jason: Could Gordon and Jimmy be right?
Chico: One more break, then someone goes home. And Jennifer is waffling with her decision... BUT... ELISE IS
SAFE. And Jeremy Rosado is going home.
Jason: Damn you, Gordon. :-)
Chico: Back to the doctor's office for you. And if you remember, he was a judges' pick. That was quick. So who does this help?
Jason: I am guessing Heejun. Joshua
Chico: Deandre, too.
Jason: Jermaine as well. Everyone but Phillip
