Round
of 13: Stevie Wonder/Whitney Houston
March 7
The
finalists have been chosen. The stage is set. And
there's a twist to boot. Our opening act to the Season
11 Finals and the road to Nokia Theatre.... R&B. And
it's going to be the MEN... versus the WOMEN on this...
the 400TH EPISODE OF AMERICAN IDOL!
The guys will take the
songbook of Stevie Wonder, no stranger to Idol. The ladies will pay
tribute to the late great Whitney Houston in their picks. Overseeing it
all is tonight's guest mentor, the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul herself, Mary
J. Blige.
Here's how this will work.
Tomorrow night, the bottom three men and the bottom three ladies will be
pulled. The lowest vote getters of both genders will face off against
the judges, and one of them will be sent packing by their hand.
1. Joshua Ledet - I Wish
Here's the problem
with this. This was too "happy and peppy" and not angry and passionate.
And his vocals were a screaming mess. This is not a good sign for Joshua
TROUBLE. Judges were SO WRONG.
2. Jermaine Jones - Knocks Me Off My Feet
I liked this. This had soul,
passion and a Luther Vandross vibe. Very pleasing. However, this is a
lesser known Stevie song. It's enough to go through. SAFE.
3. Colton Dixon - Lately
What the hell is this? This
up and down mess is Colton trying to be Adam Lambert - and it ain't
working. TROUBLE.
4. Deandre Brackensick - Master Blaster
I love his stage presence,
but his voice was so whispery thin, I couldn't hear it. But his stage
presence and better performance than the other men will keep him
through. SAFE.
5. Heejun Han - All in Love and Fair
Holy cow. This is, dare I
say...very very good. He is going on to next week. SAFE.
6. Jeremy Rosado - Ribbon in the Sky
I just don't get this. And
his voice was so whisper thin I didn't HEAR it. TROUBLE.
7. Philip Phillips - Superstition
He went all David Cook on us
with mixed results. While I like him and like what he did, he needs to
go out of the box even more. That being said, he is going on. SAFE.
1. Elise Testone - Greatest Love
of All (switched to I'm Your Baby Tonight).
Whoa this is a BAD BAD BAD
SONG choice for her. She would have crashed either way, but this is a
hot mess. Bad vocals, missed lyrics and no passion at all mean she is in
big TROUBLE.
2. Erika Van Pelt - I Believe in You and
Me
You know what, this is not
bad. She restrained herself enough not to be the potential screaming
mess this could have been. She is going on. SAFE.
3. Shannon Magrane - I Have Nothing
OUCH. All those bad notes,
and this was a big girl/little girl performance. TROUBLE.
4. Skylar Laine - Where Do Broken Hearts
Go
Subtlety works big time.
This country version of this song works. Oh boy does it work. Skylar is
the front runner on the ladies side right now. SAFE.
5. Hollie Cavanagh - All the Man That I
Need
Started slow, but came on
strong big time. Very pure and hit the money note. She is going on.
SAFE.
6. Jessica Sanchez - I Will Always Love
You
One word: DAMN. Ok, more
than one. She didn't hit every note. But she was very very good. SAFE.
So my trouble people:
MEN - Joshua, Jeremy, Colton
WOMEN - Shannon, Elise
Bottom Two - Jeremy, Shannon
OUT: Shannon(with no save)
But it's up to America to
determine who stays... and who goes.
