In the world's ultimate talent search, where the eyes of a nation are upon the best undiscovered singers in the country, where the audience has the power to make or break you, and where a million-dollar recording contract is on the line, there is only one rule: If you can sing it, bring it.

Hollywood Round: Part 2
February 9

Hollywood Week continues, and of the 310 people who have been called back to Hollywood, only 241 remain. Another cut awaits as the singers head for the Group Sing.

But first, we pick up where we left off last night with some unfinished business regarding one hopeful vocalist and one nasty stage dive.

HOLLYWOOD... Sort of.
Pasadena Civic Auditorium
Still Day 2

Symone Black (San Diego) was singing "Dock of the Bay" when she missteps and falls head first off of the stage, requiring medical attention. Let them do their work, they're the best in the business. But she regains consciousness while her fellow contestants somberly bow their heads in quiet contemplation.

... We'll spare you the drama and the details. Bottom line is, she's going to be fine. She's going to be checked out, and the show continues.

Lauren Mink, Jeremy Rosado, and Ethan Jones (St. Louis) await their fate. Ethan steps forward... as does Lauren. The good news is... no one else blacks out right now. The bad news... Lauren and Ethan are GOING HOME.

After all of.... that... 185 singers live to sing another day. But their celebration is short-lived, because they're going to have to suffer through one of the greatest travails of the American Idol experience... THE GROUP SING.

Form your groups of four or five from day 1 and day 2 players, choose one of 20 songs, master choreography, and nail it. ALL IN THE SPAN OF 24 HOURS. Or less. And playing judge, jury, and executioner during the process, Idol EP and kingpin Ken Warwick.

This year's Scotty McCreery Semi-Memorial "I Can't Find a Group" award goes to... Alisha Bernhardt. Amy Brumfield (Savannah), who lived in a tree, also can't find a group... and is starting to fall sick. She has to push through.... but that's proving to be a challenge. We'll get to her later.

Meanwhile, chaos ensues in the search for a group. Alisha finds a partner, but needs two more. Meanwhile, MIT (Most International Team) is complete. Amy finds Alisha and joins up. Need one more. And not Brianna Bell (Pittsburgh), who is apparently too big for the room.

A two-some plus a trio equals a group. Minus Alisha, it looks like. Yikes. Back to square one, it looks like.

Brianna finally finds a group called... The Betties. Alisha has a group as well. And now that everyone's all happy and united, let's rehearse.

Brielle von Hugel is no stranger to group round, having teamed with Pia Toscano last year. She's grouped with Kyle Crews and Shannon Magrane.

Symone returns from the hospital with a diagnosis of dehydration. That'll do it. She needs to find a group. Challenge complete. Everyone's in groups. Let's rehearse.

And remember when we said that Amy Brumfield has been sicker than a dog earlier this hour? She's come in contact with a lot of people... and every one of them (those that haven't stayed hydrated) are dropping like flies. ... Looking like the set of "Outbreak" up in here. No, not really, people are still working. Thanks, Fox.

Also trying.. kidney stone surgery, choreography, attitude clashes, melody issues, and again... the Idol bug.

Back with Alisha's group, Those Girls and That Guy... "That Guy" Christian has been saddled with whatever's in the air and is still not working at 100 percent. Meanwhile Patient Zero is calling on the ultimate healer to get through this one.

MIT continues to soldier on, despite "Cowboy" changing everything. A lot. At once. Heejun is still not really playing nice. Will Richie Lawson's way pay dividends, or is Heejun Han eying a coup d'etat? We'll find out... later.

People want to stay up.

People want to go to bed.

It's part of the process.

The Betties have just come to the edge. Four of them have gone to bed, leaving Jennifer Malsh to rehearse on her own... when Brianna Bell has a change of heart and sticks around. She helps her with the moves, while Jennifer helps Brianna with the words. That's bleeping teamwork.

We finally call it a night at 5:11a.

The next morning, it's game time. The judges are here. The groups have done all that they could do. And now time... is up. Next time, we'll see if all of that hard work pays off. LET'S PUT ON A SHOW!

First up... the Betties.
