When they
came to Hollywood, the final 100 had each other to rely on... But tonight,
it's them, and them alone, with one more shot at a spot on the show. Half of
the field will be cut tonight, and it promises to be anything but pretty.
HOLLYWOOD
Pasadena Civic Auditorium
And per
tradition, we start with the grouping of the 100, while the judges
deliberate. But how did they get here?
Rewind to
this morning. For the first time, the auditioners will be allowed the use of
their instruments. They can sing with full backing or not.
First up,
Haley Reinhart (Wheeling, IL) with "God Bless the Child", followed by
Ashthon Jones (Nashville) with "And I'm Telling You", and Thia Megia
(Mountain House, CA) with "What A Wonderful World".
Then it goes
south with Adrian Michael (Pearland, TX), Caleb Johnson (Asheville, NC), and
Frances Coontz (Santa Ana, CA). Will Clint Jun Gamboa (Long Beach, CA) break
the skid with "Georgia on My Mind"? Yep. And how. With that same song,
Kendra Chantelle (Loudon, TN) and Sophia Shorai (Minneapolis).
Outside,
Chris Medina (Oak Forest, AL) is going with "My Prerogative"... while Carson
Higgins (Malibu, CA) is going to sing the same song. But they're playing its
different.
Next, Julie
Zorrilla (Los Angeles) with "Love Song" by Sara Bareilles, Caleb Hawley (New
York City) with "Sir Duke" by Stevie Wonder, Colton Dixon (Murfreesboro, TN)
with "What About Now" by Daughtry, Brett Loewenstern (Boca Raton, FL) with
"The Story" by Brandi Carlisle, and Robbie Rosen (Merrick, NY) with
"Gravity" from Sara Bareilles. Casey Abrams (Idyllwild, CA) will try to do
"Georgia on My Mind" with... a stand-up bass. An American Idol first.
Last night,
Chelsee Oaks (Nashville) had to say goodbye to her ex... but now she has to
say goodbye to her Hollywood roommate Jacqueline Dunford, who has become
violently ill. She bows out of the competition, leaving Chelsee truly on her
own with "Because Of You".
Lauren
Alaina (Rossville, GA) has been a joker of the group. She will sing the song
that got her to Hollywood, "I Don't Want to Miss A Thing". Jacob Lusk
(Compton, CA) follows with "God Bless the Child".
Hard act to
follow, but John Wayne Schulz (Karnes City, TX) will try with "Landslide".
Emotional time bomb Ashley Sullivan (Springfield, MA) sings "Everything" by
Michael Buble. She hasn't bombed in front of the judges... Yet. And... cue
the bomb.
We're down
to the final five... Stefano Langone (Kent, WA) with "Sir Duke", Jovany
Barreto (Harvey, LA) with "You Sang to Me" by Marc Anthony, Jacee Badeaux
(Lafayette, LA) with "Time of My Life" by David Cook, Scotty McCreery
(Garner, NC) with... "I Hope You Dance" (C-Note: what, "Your Man" wasn't on
the list), and Tatynisa Wilson (Aurora, IL) with the same song. Both... had
lyric issues.
Which brings
us to... the present. The judges have made their decisions... the
contestants are shuttled to four holding rooms with all of their belongings
with them.
Room 1:
Ashley Sullivan, Brett Loewenstern, Jacee Badeaux, Robbie Rosen, Lauren
Alaina, James Durbin, and Casey Abrams... They're ... IN!
Room 2:
Brielle von Hugel, Corey Levoy .... They're... going home.
One room in,
one room out.
Room 3: Mark
Gutierrez, Chelsee Oaks. ... They're also going home.
Room 4 is
in, but we're going to wait a bit before we break the news... to Carson
Higgins, Julie Zorrilla, Jovany Barreto, Rachel Zevita, and Scotty McCreery.
But it's not
over yet... not by a longshot. Pack your bags. You're going to VEGAS.
