Doomsday Survival
August 11

If you thought that last season of "Extreme Chef" was extreme... you haven't seen anything yet. Because this season, we're making like a Ninja food pro and mixing it up, throwing seven chefs out into the wilds and giving them nothing but their wits in a culinary competition that will span 8000 miles through oceans, deserts, jungles, and apocalyptic wastelands in a quest to win $50,000 and the title of... "Extreme Chef"!

Your chefs are...

- Tiffany - Maui, HI; owner, Maui Catering Services, and top-ranked windsurfer
- Viet - Salt Lake City, UT; owner, Forage Restaurant
- Terry - Egg Harbor, NJ; Rebel Chef BBQ
- Scott - Boston; exec. chef, Seaglass
- Susanne - Charlotte; owner, Tiny Chef Catering
- Izzy - Londonderry, VT; exec. chef; The Mill Tavern
- Lance - South Orange, NJ; exec. chef; Indigo Smoke, and former military sniper

The first stop on this culinary adventure.... Salton Sea, CA, where an apocalyptic ghost town awaits. The only living survivor: our host Marsh Mokhtari. A canal accident inadvertently created a beach community. The sea then became too salty, fish died, and everyone fled, leaving behind a modern-day hell-hole.

EXTREME CHALLENGE: Doomsday Entree

A tent colony still exists with some supplies including duck confit, canned sardines, pickled beef tongue, and Spam. You will be given minimal essentials, but you must prepare your cooking apparatus YOURSELF. Simply put, you are making dinner with whatever you can find OUT of whatever you can find. The chef with the worst dish will fight for their culinary lives in the Final Showdown.

You have 60 minutes for this challenge.... starting NOW!

Two judges also emerge from the rubble, and they are no strangers to this page. We have food critic and author Simon Majumdar ("The Next Iron Chef") and survivalist Mykel Hawke (Discovery's "One Man Army").

Ten seconds.... five... four.... three... two... one... TIME! Everyone's married, everyone's hungry.

- IZZY: Trio of Charcuterie with Pickled Vegetable Salad & Mandarin Oranges
- TIFFANY: Juniper Berry Beef Jerky with Mandarin Oranges
- VIET: Braised Beef Tongue with Grilled Sauerkraut
- SCOTT: Mediterranean Salad with Sauteed Sardines
- SUSANNE: Duck & Sundried Tomato Confit with Stuffed Peppadew Peppers
- LANCE: Pinewood-Smoked Spam with Prunes
- TERRY: Duck Confit with Prune & Smoked Tomato Chutney

There will be a winner and a loser of this challenge. The worst dish will head to the Final Showdown. That belongs to... Lance (Spam was clunky and lacked flavor). The winner will decide who Lance will face in the Final Showdown. That person... is Scott. He decides to send up... Viet.

FINAL SHOWDOWN: Lance vs. Viet

This will be the biggest dish you'll ever make... and also the smallest. One spoonful... one shot to save yourself in this competition. You will be using scraps of ingredients found in a root cellar.

You are 20 minutes from culinary Doomsday.... GO!

Viet decides to bring the whole box with him, while Lance decides to pick and choose from whatever was inside. Each chef will also have a Bowie knife, a camp stove, and a blowtorch.

- LANCE: Fire-roasted Scallions with Chicken Gizzards
- VIET: Pine-Smoked Chicken Hearts in a Whiskey Vinaigrette

There was something a little bit lingering in Lance's Doomsday spoon, while Viet's one bite was a little too salty. Lance did cook his bite perfectly, which may save him. Viet's spoon was beautiful and read the situation perfectly. But he oversalted his dish.

The chef who holds the Extreme Knife will move on.

ELIMINATED: ... LANCE.

For the other six, it's on to the next location and the next challenge...
