In the past 4 seasons, 2 athletes, 1 soap actress and a boy band singer all captured the title. How did they get there? Surviving 3 rounds of intense dancing. Tonight, one who is in a girl group, another who is in a famous family, and one who races cars vie for the title in part one of our finals.

JUDGES' CHOICE ROUND
Kicking the finale off is Mel & Maks doing a cha-cha to "Car Wash" by Christina Aguilera. Mel went to the crowd with Maks alone. Then, she did one that gave a push. Both did a few rolls and Mel did a split. Now let's head to the judges' table. Carrie Ann said the footwork was crisp, Len said it was clean, crisp & precise and Bruno said it was technically improved. Now let's burn the numbers up!

CARRIE: 9
LEN: 9
BRUNO: 10
Round 1 Score: 28

Now, Marie & Jonathan are up doing a samba. Jonathan started out solo and did a few shakes. He even did a back-through move and Marie did a few slides before Jonathan did. She even did a few spins. Let's hope the judges not faint on her. Carrie Ann said the range of emotion was a bit limited and Len said it was right on the money. But was it enough for a jackpot?

CARRIE: 8
LEN: 8
BRUNO: 8
Round 1 Score: 24

Last in the round, Helio & Julianne doing a jive to "Let's Twist Again" by Chubby Checker. Helio made his entrance and Julianne did a split. Helio did a swim under gesture and Julianne did a "whew!" gesture before Helio fell down. Now let's get up with the judges. Carrie Ann said it was completely exciting, Len said it messed up the swerves and Bruno said the footwork was not good enough. I'm hoping it's not good....

CARRIE: 8
LEN: 8
BRUNO: 9
ROund 1 Score: 25

After a round of play, Mel's in the lead with 28, Helio has 25 and Marie is behind with 24. That was just for quarters. Now we go 1 mile in the freestyle round. And they're off!

FREESTYLE ROUND
First, Mel & Maks doing "The Way I Are" by Timbaland w/ Keri Hilson. Maks did a chair spin and Mel sat, then, carried her own chair. Maks ripped Mel's jacket off and even did a breakdance. After air moves and a split by Mel, they both danced like they're in a nightclub. Ok, to the judges. Carrie Ann said the lifts were fantastic, and Len said it had a bit of humor. No laughing matter, here's the score:

CARRIE: 9
LEN: 9
BRUNO: 9
Round 2 Score: 27
Score so far: 55

Second, Marie & Jonathan doing "start me up" by The Rolling Stones. Jonathan carried and brought the "Marie" doll to life. Marie, then did a few kicks, a copter move and both did a few 80's moves. Marie did a turnover. Wow! Let's turn over to the judges. Carrie Ann said it was her fave, Len said it somehow doesn't work, and Bruno gave a reference to the Bride of Chucky. I now pronounce you number and scoreboard....

CARRIE: 8
LEN: 7
BRUNO: 7
Round 2 Score: 22
Score so far: 46

Third & last, Helio & Julianne doing "Land of 1000 dances" by Wilson Pickett. Both counted out and came out and did a driving gesture. After the track suits went off, Julianne did a copter and Helio did a floor spin. Now let's spin over with the judges. Carrie Ann said it was a perfect blend, Len said it was the best freestyle of the night, and Bruno said he looks like a winner. Or does it?

CARRIE: 9
LEN: 10
BRUNO: 10
Round 2 Score: 29
Score so far: 54

Period 2 is over and Mel is leading by 1 point. It's over, but the dancing is not. Tomorrow, either Marie, Helio or Mel will take the title and only 2 will dance for the last time. Be back in 24 or else.
