"The Samba Smackdown/Viennese Waltz War" - June 22

Hello once again, dance fans, Pierre Kelly here to give you another week of "Dancing With The Stars" as our couples once again for your pleasure live on TV. This week, our 4 will dance a samba individually and later, all 4 will storm the stage for the Viennese Waltz. For the samba only, judges will opinion and rate the performances from 1 to10, with 10 being the highest score for an individual judge and 30 points being the maximum for all 3 judges. Whoever has the lowest public votes will say goodbye to the dance floor for good. Last week, Evander Holyfield & Edyta Silwinska got knocked out of the competition. Who will be the next couple knocked out at elimination? Will 1st place be a charm for Kelly & Alec? And will we ever see a perfect 30 in this episode? Let's get ready to...DANCE!

SAMBA SMACKDOWN

Joey and Ashly are first up, last week, they survived the bottom 2 cut, and this week, they'll be dancing to a jock rock song called "Tequila" by The Champs. During the song, they did some side turns, they had both spinning, they also did a bend & shake, but by the song's break, Joey did a little butt banging to her. It may look a little crazy, but let's get serious with the judges: Len said it was a little disappointing, Carrie Ann said it did wonderfully and Bruno said it has improved, but it was a little stiff rolewise. Now that their roleplay is over, let's hit up the scoreboard:

LEN: 6 CARRIE ANN: 7 BRUNO: 7 Total: 20
That's a decent way to start the show.

Rachel & Johnathan are next up. Last week, they claimed 1st place. Can they do it again? During practice, Rachel took lessons from a real samba dancer, but how will that pay off? They'll do a samba to Quincy Jones' "Soul Bossa Nova," which BTW, is also the themes for both Austin Powers & Definition. The song started off with Rachel doing a handstand, and when they got to the floor, they did some side turns and had a little shaking. Rachel went in for a leg lift spin my the middle of the song, and did her own split. But Johnathan did a little knee drag nearing the end, and by the end of the song, Rachel took a big dip. Will they define 1st place again? Let's hear it from our judges: Bruno said Rachel's like a sultry & exotic bird, Carrie Ann said it had great moves, but it was a bit boring, and Len said it was like a fabulous package. Will it be return to sender for them at elimination? Let's go to the score! s:

LEN: 9 CARRIE ANN: 7 BRUNO: 9 Total: 25
They take the lead for the 2nd time in a row.

Getting 3rd in this Samba smackdown is John & Charlotte. Last week, they came so close to 1st, but will 25 be close enough to tie it up? They'll be doing a samba to Bill Withers' "Just The Two of Us." By the start of the song, Charlotte did a little knee bend rise, and by the chorus, they did some turn around leg stomps. At the 2nd verse, they did some turns and John did some fast footwork. By the chorus again, Both spun around, but Charlotte did a floor spin on her back, and by the end, both kneel down for a routine. Now we hear from our judges: Len said it was fun with an edge, Carrie Ann said it had amazing chemistry, but it was a little off, and Bruno said it was a good performance, but John's foot was a little messy. Will they clean up 1st place and the scoreboard? Let's go to it:

LEN: 8 CARRIE ANN: 7 BRUNO: 6 Total: 21
They retain 2nd for the 2nd week in a row.

Last up, Kelly & Alec, last week, they improved their dancing, but can they do it again? During practice, Kelly took some lessons from a real ballet dancer. How will that go? They'll be dancing to Enrique Iglesias' "Bailamos." At the beginning, Kelly did a little solo salsa dancing, but when they paired up in the middle of the song, Alec did a little squat spin. Getting to the end of the song, Alec did a little kick and ended with a squat while Kelly lied on her stomach 1/2 way between his legs. Let's go the judges for their opinions: Len said it really upped it for them, Bruno said Kelly's a little red-hot chili pepper and Carrie Ann said way to go with a solo standing O. Will this be first place for them? Let go to the scores one last time:

LEN: 9 CARRIE ANN: 9 BRUNO: 8 Total: 26
And for the 1st time, they are now in the lead!

Before all 4 couples come back to the floor for the waltz, let's recap the scores: Kelly & Alec have 26 (4 ranking points), Rachel & Johnathan have 25 (3 ranking points), John & Charlotte have 21 (2 ranking points) and Joey & Ashly are way behind with 20 (1 ranking point). All 4 have fiddled around the floor for the judges, but all 4 have come back to the floor to declare the first-ever Viennese Waltz group dance. Let's Party!

VIENNESE WALTZ WAR
All 4 have taken the floor to Sonny & Cher's "I Got You Babe," and John & Charlotte will kick things off here. Both did some spinning, but it was Charlotte who did the most turning and did some flying. Rachel & Johnathan were next, as both took a dip while Rachel did a little bow, and ended up doing some windmill spins by Johnathan. Kelly & Alec were up next, and it was the answer to the question, "can you top this?" as Kelly did some fast helicopter spins by Alec. Last up, Joey & Ashly. They both did sone spins and added a little sauce by jumping. All ended up with a big bow. But who's getting a curtain call in this Waltz as we go to our judges one last time to determine who's best and who's worse.

LEN: Best: John & Charlotte Worst: Joey & Ashly
CARRIE ANN: Best: Kelly & Alec Worst: Rachel & Johnathan
BRUNO: Best: John & Charlotte Worst: Joey & Ashly

Now that all 4 have survived this war, 3 will escape the war zone, but only 1 will be tanked by the lowest public votes. Who's going home this week? IT'S ELIMINATION TIME!

Going 1st in random order...Kelly & Alec! That's 1/3 of the semi-finals, but we need a 1/3 to join them and that's...Joey & Ashly! So far, we are 2/3 of next week's semi-finals, we need a 1/3 to complete it, but there's one couple who won't complete it and that's...Rachel & Johnathan. John & Charlotte remain safe for the week. As we end, Rachel & Johnathan dance one last time to "I've Had the Time of My Life" from Bill Medley & Jennifer Warnes. And I had a great time recapping this week's episode, because next week, another couple's hourglass is about to run out of sand. Who will it be? Don't forget to vote at abc.com for your favorite couple. (must have an account) Until we see you again, this is Pierre Kelly saying dots & power pellets, I'm out.
