TOURNAMENT 6 - THE THEMED TOURNAMENT
EPISODE 4 - THE USUAL CPS
In Vegas, only the strong survive...or, at the very least, get out of town with some money in their pocket. The five players tonight don't have to worry about running out of dough. They're celebrities, for one thing. For another, this is CELEBRITY POKER SHOWDOWN, the serious cash-money tournament that plays like Beverly Hills home games, and it don't cost them a thing to get invited to this. The only deal is...they must play for charity, specifically for the largest parts of the Beck's Premier Light(TM) $250,000 Prize Pool and the $100,000 winner's share.
This season is different from previous tournaments because each and every preliminary table has a theme. Well...actually, not ALL the tables. This one...is pretty common with nothing truly connecting the five celebs (including two veterans of CPS). Still, it shouldn't be any less entertaining. The celebs are:
CELEBRITY | BIO |
Anthony Anderson playing for the Anthony & Alvina Anderson Charitable Support Foundation |
This comedic actor has been in films like "Barbershop", "My Baby's Daddy" and "King's Ransom". Will he be able to get some Hang Time at the table tonight or will his dreams of winning a bunch for his charity be blown to "Kingdom Come"? |
Cheryl Hines playing for United Cerebal Palsy of Central Florida |
She felt she was gonna throw up throughout her first appearance in the fourth tournament. Now the Curb Your Enthusiasm star is back to avenge herself...and to keep her stomach contents down. Will she be like Herbie (as in Fully Loaded) after tonight or will her performance make Phil Gordon wanna puke? |
Amber Tamblyn playing for the OJAI Foundation |
After some time on General Hospital and being in "The Ring", Amber landed the title role of the God-talking Joan of Arcadia. Will she be a ringer tonight or is God refusing to be her co-pilot this time? |
Alex Trebek playing for the Smile Train |
If you don't know THIS Canadian, you haven't been watching syndicated game shows for the past two decades. Alex has been the host of Jeopardy! for 21 years! Will he leave all questions about his poker playing behind or, like Ken Jennings in the "Ultimate Tournament of Champions", will he be humbled? |
Michael Vartan playing for the Pediatric Epilepsy Project |
Michael likewise lost his first prelim in the fourth tournament. But this star of Alias and "Monster In Law" is back and ready to go. Will he be "The Next Big Thing" or disappear into The Mists of Avalon? |
Each celebrity will start with $10,000 worth of chips and the game will continue until one celebrity has all $50K in his/her possession, thus winning the "coveted" silver chip and making him/her eligible for the Final Table later in the year. At the announcers' position beside the Losers' Lounge are host Dave Foley and poker expert Phil Gordon. They'll be calling the action emanating from the main room.
A little less conversation, a little more action! As Tournament Director Robert Thompson says. let's SHUFFLE UP AND DEAL!
