Grand
Finale
December 21
It's the moment two months
in the making. We're down to the Clark Brothers, Denver & the Mile High
Orchestra, and Sixwire. One of them is the Next Great American Band and
will win a recording contract from 19.
But who?
We'll find out in a second, but first, Christmas comes early, as the
judges begin to reflect. Dicko says that it's huge to get such a
lucrative deal. We have three very nervous bands in the Green Room.
First, though, a look back to the tune of "When I Fall from Grace" by
Geoff Byrd and The Likes of You.
Next, a surprise performance that Dicko lays out for us. Some of the
bands didn't quite make it, but they had certain aspects. Northmont was
such a band, so they invited them back to play with the horns from
Denver & the Mile High Orchestra, the rhythm section of Sixwire, and the
Clark Brothers. Tonight, they play "Smooth" by Santana and Rob Thomas.
We come to a Clark Brothers montage reliving their journey. They think
they're the Next Great American Band because they rock. They go
unplugged with "You Are Stil the Same."
Next up, Sheila joins up with COED to rock out on "Glamorous Life".
Following them, a montage of Sixwire, a former boy band... that is now a
man-band. This was their second chance at greatness. They've been
through a lot, and they don't want to give up what they had before.
They're back on stage singing "The Last Time" by the Rolling Stones.
Another judge takes the stage as John joins the Goo Goo Dolls on
"Broadway".
Last of the contestant bands to take the stage is Denver & the Mile High
Orchestra. They were the only horn-based outfit in the show, which gave
them a bit of an edge. They've sacrificed a lot of time and energy (and
outfits) to get to where they are. They take the stage with "Vehicle" by
Ides of March.
We're not too long from naming "The Next Great American Band"... but
first, the band that was given the royal boot last week, singing "Merry
Christmas Everybody"... It's Light of Doom. That kicks off Dot Dot Dot
singing "I Wish It Would Be Christmas Everyday", Sixwire singing
"Perfect Christmas", Tres Bien! singing "Wonderful Christmastime", the
Clark Brothers singing "Last Christmas" (featuring Rose from Tres Bien!),
Cliff Wagner & the Old #7 singing "Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer",
DMHO singing "Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town", and all the bands jamming
on "Another Rock & Roll Christmas".
Now we've come to the moment that 2 and a half million people have been
waiting for. The top two bands left... Sixwire.... The Clark Brothers.
Dominic Bowden, it is all yours...
"The next great American band is... THE CLARK BROTHERS!"
And here come the pyrotechnics. Judges give both bands a standing O.
Dicko: "You guys week after week brought the magic, and to me that's
what music is all about. I'm so proud of you guys." Sheila: "I prayed
for this moment. I can't begin to tell us how much you've blessed us
week after week." Johnny? "I knew it all along. Your heart and your soul
and your ability and your passion for what you do is so obvious. That
sort of sincerity can't be faked."
With all due respect for the other bands, this series belonged to the
Clark Brothers. They thank the fans. "We just came from the house to the
stage, and we're just freaking out right now." They close us out with
"Billy the Kid".
Dominic wishes us a very Merry Christmas and a happy holiday until next
year. Will we be back next week with more bands? Only time knows for
sure.
All we know right now, though, is that the Clark Brothers earned this. |
