"The Final Rose" - November 24

We are back for the grand finale of The Bachelor. We'll see if Byron selects Mary or Tanya - and we'll see if they are still together by the end of the After the Rose show.

We start with Byron and his doggy leaving the mansion to meet his mom and dad, who are waiting for him in a limo. To make matters worse for him, his parents are divorced and live on opposite ends of the country. After toasting to them all there, he goes over the whole story to his parents.

His mom, Joan, says that he is ready to settle down, while Byron Sr. , his father, said that his divorce was very painful - but he's ready to move over it. Byron tells his parents about Mary's reluctance to bring her parents over and visit - and he says that if Mary brigs her parents over, it would be a sign that she is serious.

From that, we go to Mary, who invites her parents over to her real place. She tells them about the situation in Spanish (as they don't speak well n English). She says that it's important for them to know what's going on - and they say that whatever makes her happy, makes them happy. Mary decides that it's important to show Byron how important her family is, and they all decide to go and visit Byron.

Byron, after seeing Mary brig her parents over, is now convinced about their relationship. In addition, he speaks Spanish to Mary's parents, which will undoubtedly net him bonus points. They toast to the happiness of all, and Mary says that Byron should now see how important this is to her. They talk about Byron's job, and Mary's dad says that he was a fisherman while he was in Cuba. Joan was impressed with Mary's parents, as she says that when you marry, you marry family.

Mary's dad now has a question for Byron - what is Byron's intentions? He says that the only reason why he is here is to find the woman that he wants to settle down with. Mary's mom says that she's never seas Mary this happy - but she is very nervous because what has happened in the past.

Joan wants to know what Mary thought of Byron. She says that the first time she saw him, she may have been in trouble - and she was hoping that what was cute on the outside is what's just as cute on the inside. Byron's turn to answer the same question - and he says that he was very happy when he first saw her.

Mary brings Joan for a moment in an aside, and asks her if she is crazy that she is falling in love with Byron. Mary tells Joan that it is going to be tough, because they are going to meet another wonderful person tomorrow. Joan says that she only wishes that tonight was the only night, because she is thrilled with Mary. While they are talking, Byron is communicating (as well as he can) with Mary's father as they talk about fishing.

Byron's father gets to talk - and he says that there hasn't been any negatives in her conversation with Mary - and that's nice. Dad gives approval to their union - without seeing Tanya. Mary is thrilled with the experience - but is very concerned now, as they have to meet Tanya.

Once Mary and her family leaves, Byron and his parents talk about Mary. They are very happy with Mary - but they want a basis of comparison. Byron says that he has the same feelings towards Tanya, which prompts dad to say that if he's feeling the same thing towards Tanya, then there is a problem.

And here comes the problem...I mean Tanya, as she brings her mom, Peggy. Her dad cannot attend due to work issues, but she thinks that her mom would be a great judge of Byron. She talks to her mom about Byron, and when she mentions 40 years old and fisherman, she seems far from impressed. She is skeptical, but she does tell Tanya to follow her heart - and she will see if she can help guide it.

That morning, Joan asks Byron about Tanya, and he says that she is beautiful. He tells them about the vote at the beginning of the show - and he says that she voted for Jay. He tells his parents to bring it up so they can make fun of her - just to see her reaction, Well, that's sort of cruel.

Tanya meets Byron, and Peggy is happy because she sees the affection there. Tanya brings flowers and wine as gifts, which impresses Joan. Joan is also impressed that Tanya is an assertive girl, while Peggy talks about how they were all raised up by the water.

Joan talks to Tanya about all of the time that Byron is off, and she says that she has a lot of time off because she is a teacher, adding that she can either follow Byron or hang out with her family. Tanya says that when marriage is meant to happen, it will. Joan is very impressed with that answer.

Joan asks Byron why Tanya is there, and he says that they see eye to eye and they have a strong connection. As planned, Byron Sr. does joke about the fact that she didn't pick Byron, and she says that they spoke th next morning and if they had that conversation, she would have voted for him. Peggy is now impressed with Byron, saying that he is sincere and true to the heart.

Between dinner and dessert, Joan pulls Tanya over to speak to her. She asks Tanya what would happen if Byron presented her an engagement ring. Tanya says that it's what she's been looking and praying for, and she would embrace it, as she sees them raising children together. She loves Byron - and Joan, for raising her. They share a hug and then leave.

Byron asks Joan about her opinion, and she says 'Boy, you have some work on your hands.' She says that all of the qualities that she sees he wants are in both of them, but they are going in different directions, She says that the key is which one are more likely to go down his path. She doesn't have a direction to give him, but tells him to follow his own direction.

Tanya is thrilled about the meeting, and so is Peggy. She says that she has let herself out on a limb - and she hopes that her heart isn't broken.

Byron asks his parents who they prefer. They don't give him an answer. He asks if it's too soon to give an engagement ring. They also don't give him an answer, but they do tell him that if he is going to give a ring, he stands by him. Way to be decisive and help him out, parents.

While Byron meditates on his motorboat, the women both travel to Byron's hometown of Lake Mead to have a final date with Byron. They meet at the dock (he calls it 'his office') as he takes her to his friends - Mike, Monica Jason and Kerry. They all sit down and eat on a paddleboat. Mike asks if she can move, and she said that she was going to move to Colorado. She is asked about her competition and she says that she is the better choice for him. Meow. She says that she doesn't have a problem saying that, which is fine. She sees herself falling for Byron, which, of course, is the right thing to say.

Monica takes Tanya aside and asks her about Byron's leaving - and she may feel that she is second choice for fishing. Tanya says that she will learn to live with it - and she will go with him when she isn't teaching. Monica says that Tanya is secure with herself and she is perfect. The only negative? Kerry wonders if he is 'too comfortable' with the relationship - meaning that he's doing this for a relationship's sake instead of doing this because he loves her. Hmmm...

After the visit with his friends, they spend time on his boat and go fishing. Tanya thought that seeing him out there collecting fish made him...sexy. Ooook. Byron teaches Tanya how to fish as they spend the afternoon on the boat. They spend a lot of time kissing and then head back at night. He brings Tanya to his house on the lake where they go in, toast to some sparkling wine and kiss some more. Tanya says that she liked his friends and she was impressed with their questions. They end the evening by kissing some more. Tanya says that she loves Byron - but is very concerned with the fact that Byron is seeing Mary as well.

Speaking of Mary, it's her turn to meet Byron's friends. Byron meets her outside in a picnic area as they walk to 'his office' by the lake. She asks Byron how yesterday was, and he says that is was great. She gives a very nervous laugh, with Byron saying that yesterday is yesterday. Don't ask the question if you don't want to know the answer...

Byron's friends are going to want the answers, so they will be asking the questions. Jason actually saw Mary on the previous edition of the Bachelor - and fortunately for Mary, he liked her on the show, so he feels comfortable about it. Kerry knew it too, but Mike and Monica didn't know it which prompts Mike to know if she wants to win Byron's heart - or if she just wants to win.

Mary talks about the show - and tells them that she wanted to leave earlier on in the show, but Byron convinced her to stay on. She talks about her experiences, and Kerri starts tearing up. 'I think she is an amazing match for Byron'. She admits that it would be tough for her to leave, but if she gets a serious commitment from Byron, she will leave to stay with him. Mike asks her about the competition, and she says that if he doesn't give her a rose, she will kick his @$$, which gets laughter.

Mike is suspicious about Mary's motives and asks her about wanting to win. She explains to him how hard it was for her to come back to the show and talks about getting her heart broken, adding that she wants that man to love her as much as she loves him. She says that she is hopeful to get that last rose from Byron. She is asked if she is ready to marry him in 2 weeks, and she says that she is ready to marry him tomorrow. Mike brings Byron over for a talk. He says that Tanya is a wonderful girl - but Mary is the one that he would fall in love with. Mike says that either way, it's going to be a tough decision on his part.

After the talk with his friends, Mary and Byron wind up kissing in the car as they travel to a helicopter. They take a helicopter tour over the lake and accompanying marina. They then tour the Colorado river and their respective dams. They kiss and cuddle in the helicopter.

After passing over Las Vegas, Byron invites Mary to his house. Like Tanya the night before, they also toast over champagne and talk about his friends. Mary says that they were a little tough, but not too bad - and they were impressed with the questions. She asks if Byron has any reservations, and he said that he had them - but he doesn't have them anymore. She asks him if he has found his soulmate between the two of them. He says yes - but of course, he can't say who, because it would ruin the last 40 minutes of the show. They end the evening kissing and as much as Mary likes it, she is concerned that her intuition could be all wrong - like it was before.

It's the day of the final rose ceremony, and Byron is happy that he is in love. He thinks that one of the two women is someone that he can spend the rest of his life with. He finds Tanya very compassionate and Mary a passionate women who has a zest for life. He says that it's going to be rough because even though he has a connection with one of the women, he has to let the other woman go.

We get a quick peek at the women, as Tanya wants everything to work out, while Mary wants the carousel ending, adding that she hopes that Byron is as committed to her as she is to him.

After a trip to the jewelers, Byron is talking to himself as he wonders if he can make the leap of faith with an engagement ring. Tanya says that she feels complete and grounded with Byron. Mary says that she hopes that with Byron, she can start the life together that she's always dreamed of. Day quickly turns into night, and both Mary and Tanya are escorted into their limousines.

Final thoughts from the people involved before the final decision - Tanya thinks that she ready for marriage, Mary will be devastated if Byron doesn't pick her, and Byron has come to grips that although he was falling in love with things about one woman, he wasn't falling in love with this woman. As anyone who has seen the finales to any of these series knows, the first person who comes to see Byron is always the person who gets rejected. The first person to come out of that limousine is....

...Tanya, who is escorted by Chris into the mansion and to the back to meet Byron. He hugs Tanya, and talks about how wonderful she is. Let's just cut to the chase here, 'I've loved who you are as a person...I only have a problem with I haven't fallen in love with you. I just haven't fallen in love, and it's hard for me to admit to you, because I can't believe that I am letting someone as beautiful, as intelligent, as kind and as caring as you go.'

He apologizes to her and they hug. She just smiles and nods, and then exhales as he walks her out. He apologizes to her, and she says that she is speechless. She feels like she has been lied to, and she feels like a fool. She says that her heart is broken but she can't make him love her. She starts to tear up and then she goes into the limousine after sharing one last hug. She is furious that she gave him her heart - and he stepped on it, She adds that she would have rather have been eliminated earlier if she knew that this was going to happen.

Byron is sad - but he says that he would have walked through a million rose ceremonies to find Mary. With that, we cue in to Mary, who is still terrified of getting her heart broken. She is also escorted to the back via Chris and she talks about being ready to get married. To spare you from ten minutes of mush, we'll cut to the chase here, too, 'I've thought a lot about one thing that I've been struggling with...and I don't know how to say this to you...there is something that I cannot see happening tonight - and I cannot see spending another minute without you as my wife.' With that, he gets on one knee and proposes - in Spanish. AwwwwBarf.

They both tell each other how much they love one another, and how they will be together forever. They hug and kiss some more and he gives her the final rose. 'I will honor you, I will cherish you, I will make you so happy.' Mary is glad that she finally gets her fairytale ending. 'I'm in love with Byron - I am so in love with him'. Byron's last words - 'Mary is everything to me. I am the luckiest man on Earth right now, because I have found the women that is everything that I have ever hoped to find in this lifetime. I have definitely found my soulmate.' Fade to black. End of show.

End of the show - but not the end of the series - because we have one more show left...
