Another 11 teams are about to hit the road, the sky, and all points in between in their quest for $1 million. Who'll succeed? Who'll falter? And who'll get lost at the gate? Another adventure of a lifetime awaits as we begin the sixteenth running... of the AMAZING RACE! Your racers are... - DANA & ADRIAN DAVIS (High School
Sweethearts) - Married couple from Arlington, TX. You know how this goes already, but here's a refresher. Your objective is to follow your clues to route markers, where you'll find more clues. Eventually, you'll reach a Pit Stop. Be sure you're the first one there. The 16th Race will have 12 legs and 12 Pit Stops. Eight of them are elimination legs. Get to the Pit Stop last on one of these, and the only place you're going is Elimination Station. Each leg, you'll receive a little money to cover expenses and incidentals except for tickets (business-class only, folks) which are already paid for. Or will be once this Race is over. And the first team to cross the finish line will win, say it with me now, ONE... MILLION... DOLLARS... CASH MONEY. We now go live to the starting line...
STARTING LINE The 25 highways that cut through Los Angeles are already congested with workday traffic. You will have to find a way to the airport using public transportation. There are two flights available, but only the first three teams at the airport will receive tickets to the first flight, leaving one hour earlier. But for now, Phil Keoghan, it is all yours... "The world is waiting for you... Good luck... Travel safe... ... ... ... GO!" And like that, The 16th running of the Amazing Race is ON! The first clue is...
Jeff & Jordan L. get a tip to get to the airport... Go to Union Station. Jordan P. does a dead-on impersonation of Caite as they take the Flyaway to LAX. The first teams are already on their way to the airport. Meanwhile, Jeff & Jordan L. wonder where they're going... Guatemala? China? "You ever watch 'Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?" No... Chile. The first team to the airport is... Monique & Shawne, Jeff & Jordan L, and Dana & Adrian. The other teams are relegated to the next flight. 1st FLIGHT to SANTIAGO via
DALLAS Meanwhile, Jet & Cord decide to change their money to Brazilian money... big mistake. 2nd FLIGHT to SANTIAGO via
MIAMI But we have a situation... one that Brandy was praying for... a mechanical malfunction has grounded the first flight. Dana & Adrian decide to switch to the other flight. Jordan L. & Jeff... follow suit, as do Monique & Shawne. So all 11 teams will be on the same flight. SANTIAGO, CHILE The first bus leaving at 12:15 has Jeff & Jordan L, Brent & Caite, Dana & Adrian, and Monique & Shawne. The second bus leaving at 12:20 should've had Jet & Cord on it, but they're trying to pay their way with Brazilian money, not Chilean. So they're off. Meanwhile, Carol & Brandy, Jody & Shannon, Joe & Heidi, and Dan & Jordan P. are on it. The third bus leaving at 12:30 has Jet & Cord, Louie & Michael, and Jody & Shannon. VALPARAISO, CHILE Taking the early lead are Jeff & Jordan L. Brent & Caite are in second. But Brent & Caite are the first to this series' first...
Caite gets the first nod. She doesn't have a fear of heights, so... Jordan L. decides to take on the Roadblock, as Jeff's afraid of heights. One by one, we have each team get the clue and take to the sky. Did we mention that it was windy? Good luck... Caite is the first to finish, so Brent & her get this...
Jody & Shannon and Jet & Cord are batting cleanup. Meanwhile, Adrian decides to take on the Roadblock... even though he's afraid of heights. Speaking of, Dan falls off the highwire and ends up "jsuzszing" himself up to the end of the rope. It's a challenge for all the teams involved. Jordan L finally makes her way across the rope to join Jeff. Brent & Caite... in the lead... WALK down the mountain. All the while, Jeff, Dan, and the two Jordans head down via funicular. Brent & Caite get this...
Brent & Caite started to get annoyed with each other as they carry their paint up the hill. Meanwhile Jeff & Jordan L. and Dan & Jordan P head to the houses. Steve & Allie and Joe & Heidi make their way to the funiculars. Carol & Brandy join them. One by one, the teams pass Adrian. Jeff & Jordan L are the first to find a house in need of paint. And the first to finish!
Brent & Caite start on their house... and finish to catch up to Jeff & Jordan L. Back at the Roadblock, Shannon and Cord decide to take on the cables. Adrian, meanwhile, is still hanging on for dear life. ... and then he falls off. He needs to get back on with the help of a safety specialist. But Adrian is taken back to the start, as Cord starts along his way. PIT STOP Follow the music to Phil and a band of happy locals, who greet Jeff & Jordan L... as TEAM #1! They win a trip to Vancouver, BC! And dancing! Brent & Caite are the second team to arrive... but they incur a penalty for not taking the funicular down to a clue. The penalty is 30 minutes... starting now. Dan & Jordan P drop a brush. Meanwhile, Steve & Allie arrive at the wrong house... and start painting the inside... The not-so-happy local is wondering what the hell they're doing. Back on Templeton Street, Monique & Shawne are head to the Pit Stop where they lock in 2nd Place. Dan & Jordan P lose their brush and keep on going. Dana is still pushing Adrian to finish the Roadblock. At around the same time, Louie & Michael paint the wrong edifice and Steve & Allie... realize their mistake. Jet & Cord take down 3rd Place. Dan & Jordan P... are the fourth team to arrive, BUT their paintbrush will cost them 15 minutes. In 4th, Steve & Allie. In 5th Joe & Heidi. In 6th, Carol & Brandy. And finally allowed to check in at 7th... Brent & Caite. And finally allowed to check in at 8th... Dan & Jordan P. Louie & Michael are in 9th. ... and Adrian has decided to try some more... and he fell again. Dana's going to push him ragged. But it's all for naught. Jody & Shannon are Team #9. Dana & Adrian have to be picked up BY PHIL on site, where they are eliminated. No doubt, they're not happy, but Adrian is an iron man to try something and fail... and then try again. They had each other before. They'll still have each other.
