I Wonder If
They Like Blondes in New Zealand Last time, the Race took us to La Paz, Bolivia, where the players looked through the paper for a hat and an opportunity to fight like a girl.... literally. Unfortunately for comic book guys Mark & Bill, a combination of altitude sickness and misreading a clue was enough to do them in. Meanwhile, Ken & Tina claimed their second consecutive victory, while Kelly & Christy accuse Starr of throwing a sports bra off the ledge, setting off a nerve which would last the entire leg. PIT STOP - Mirador el Monitculo; La Paz, Bolivia We rejoin the Race in La Paz where, after 12 hours of sleeping, eating, and schmoozing - and in Kelly & Christy's case, leveling another accusation involving Nick & Starr, Aja & Ty, and a U-turn - Ken & Tina set off with this clue in hand.
Ken & Tina thought that they've turned a corner on the last leg. Half an hour later, Toni & Dallas are next, not knowing where New Zealand. Meanwhile, Ken & Tina catch a flight on the 3:55 (with a connection in Lima, apparently the fastest flight out). Then come Terence & Sarah, Marisa & Brooke, Aja & Ty, Nick & Starr, and Andrew & Dan, all of them making another push toward the goal. Andrew has a complaint about Dan, him thinking that it's "The Dan Show". Kelly & Christy finally leave an hour after the first team leave... and no one has left the gates yet. Andrew & Dan help the Southern Belles look for a flight while looking for one of their own. Ken & Tina notice and are readily pissed. Another person who's pissed is Ty, who accuses Aja of getting into a "mood" and taking control. He calls her "Fidel". So it looks like the fastest flight all of a sudden isn't. All teams are on the 3:55 LAN flight to... AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND And as Sarah said, it's all cylinders go with Terence & Sarah jetting out to the early lead as they head out. Following them, Andrew & Dan, Ken & Tina, Kelly & Christy, Nick & Starr, Aja & Ty, Toni & Dallas, and Marisa & Brooke. Ken does some quick driving to move to second. And a couple of teams get lost trying to make their way to the motorway. The gas pumper says that you CAN'T get lost. Along the way, Aja & Ty suffer malady of maladies, a flat tire. And the rest of the pack take advantage of it passing them by. So it's up to Aja to flag down a stranger who'll help. They finally get some help, and they're on their way. (C-Note: A special hello to everyone out there who just tuned in for "Cold Case") The rest of the teams make their way to the knots at Gulf Harbour. Once untangled, the knots reveal a love note from Phil...
Also attached to the clue is something that's in rare supply this Race.
Tina wants to go for it. So do Andrew & Dan. Who'll get to the Skytower first? It's Ken & Tina, but Team Superbad are not far behind... until they discover Ken & Tina's car, meaning that they will claim the Fast Forward. Did we mention that Tina has a massive fear of heights? Meanwhile, back on the Race Course, Terence & Sarah are the first to get blocked...
It's really hard to do it at night, as Terence figures out rather early. But he gets his clue.
Back at the Skytower, fear sets in as Tina has to make her way to the top. ALL the her way. Toni goes through the Roadblock and Dallas hopes she won't get eaten. She doesn't, and she's on her way.
Terence & Sarah decide to take this systematically... and then sprint off in another direction. Back at the Skytower, it begins swaying as Tina continues her climb. Back at Gulf Harbour, Marisa & Brooke... walk past the last remaining knot. Back to the Skytower again, as Ken & Tina spot their own gnome waiting at the top.
Meanwhile, the rest of the pack (save for Marisa & Brooke) finish the Roadblock. Over at the hotel, Terence & Sarah find the Roaming Gnome ready to hang-glide off of the top of a mirrored building. It's Gnome Time! Toni & Dallas find one on the 17th floor balcony of a neighboring building. Terence & Sarah are first to find the Roaming Gnome... all gnome, all the time! On the bottom of the Gnome...
Nick & Starr make their way to the roadblock, but are met with... disaster. Aja & Ty... same thing. Meanwhile, Team Superbad find their gnome ready to do some biking. Nick & Starr pass by Kelly & Christy at the hotel. On a chopper ride to the Pit Stop, Ken & Tina finally note that they're heading in the right direction... in more ways than one. Nick & Starr find a rowing Gnome and head out to Kiwi 360. Kelly & Christy, frustrated to no end, finally find a Gnome... just hanging out. So do Aja & Ty... only theirs is in a balloon. PIT STOP - Summerhill; Auckland, New Zealand Ken & Tina make their way to the mat, where they're greeted by Phil and the happy local... but not just ANY happy local... "Hi, I'm Phil's dad. Welcome to New Zealand." With that, Ken & Tina punch in as Team #1. Their reward for completing this leg first... a Carnaval adventure in Rio! Back to the Race, where Terence & Sarah are the first to Kiwi 360 to pick up...
Terence likes the idea of stepping on kiwis. Sarah notes that below the kiwis are... jagged rocks. Toni & Dallas are right behind them. Both pairs of feet are getting cut up pretty badly, with Toni saying that it looked so much more fun when Lucy & Ethel did it. After unclogging their spouts, Terence & Sarah are the first to read this!
Toni & Dallas, not knowing how to unclog their spout, head back onto the road to do the other part of the Detour. PIT STOP - Summerhill; Auckland, New Zealand There are a lot of sheep in the way, but the woolly waves are parted for Terence & Sarah to meet the Keoghans and lock in 2nd. Toni & Dallas try not to get confused making their Blo-Karts, while Nick & Starr and Andrew & Dan head on out to Blo-Kart Heaven. They tell Kelly & Christy to do the kiwis... mainly for the comedy aspect. Toni can't control her Blo-Karts. Meanwhile, Kelly & Christy finish their juicing while Toni & Dallas finish their racing. Andrew & Dan... still can't assemble their vessel. Aja & Ty just get into the kiwi bin and start crushing. Kelly & Christy are third to the Pit Stop. Back at the Blo-Kart course, Starr takes a tough fall and it looks like she might've broken her arm. Back at the Pit Stop, Toni & Dallas come in fourth. Nick & Starr complete the course, but can Starr move her arm? The faster they get to the Pit Stop, the faster they can get that looked at. Aja & Ty are beaten by the kiwi, so they head over to Blo-Kart Heaven. Dan finally realizes that they need each other to win the Race. Meanwhile, Nick & Starr finally get to the Pit Stop at fifth. Andrew & Dan lock in sixth... their best finish... and Andrew kisses Phil's dad. That leaves two teams still racing, Marisa & Brooke at the kiwi orchard, and Aja & Ty at the Blo-Karts. While Marisa & Brooke are almost juiced to overflowing, Ty's knots are in an incorrect position not once, but twice. Both complete at more or less the same time, but who'll get to Phil and his dad first? And amongst the sheep... are Aja & Ty! They're team #7! Which leaves Marisa & Brooke. They're the last team to arrive... and have been eliminated. The two girls from South Carolina were trying to make it all the way around the world... and the best they'll do is a hug from Phil's dad.
