Top 48 - Heat 2
July 19
(C-Note: some of the acts that you are
about to read involve real danger in front of a live audience. They were
designed, practiced, and supervised by professionals, taking the
contestants' safety into full account. They are extremely dangerous and
should NEVER be attempted anywhere, by anyone, at any time.
The following was adapted from a taping of We Love to Interrupt, episode
dated July 25, 2011)
Last week, your votes sent singer Anna
Graceman, dancer Snap Boogie, Sandou Trio Russian Bar, and the Miami
All-Stars into the Top 24. Now the question... Who's going to join them?
1) ATTACK DANCE CREW (Tallahassee, FL) -
dancing to "Give Me Everything" by Pitbull featuring Ne-Yo & Nayer
Sloppy, sloppy, sloppy.
2) DANI SHAY (Orlando) - performing
"Babylon" by David Gray
Picked the completely wrong song. She
needed to stay in her genre. A singer-songwriter song would have done
it, maybe from the library of Christine Lavin or Tom Paxton. Instead,
she sounded like a watered down singer. Just as a reminder, we had Dani
Shay going to the next round out of this week's group. Because she was a
singer and a darn good one. Not this week.
3) GEECHY GUY (Rochester, MI) - stand-up
comedy with a couple of whoopie cushions accompanying.
Geechy Guy was... creepy. Creeped Piers
out a bit. And this was AFTER Howie make the News of the World joke.
Creepy = Funny.
4) DANIEL JOSEPH BAKER (Katy, TX) -
performing "Edge of Glory" by Lady Gaga
Daniel Joseph Baker was the first 'good'
act, but he has to get out of GaGaville. You can sing Lady Gaga songs.
Great. Now do SOMETHING ELSE. You can not be of one dimension. That'll
get you only one place: out.
5) RHINESTONE ROPERS (Jerome, ID) - Wild
West Showdown... with a horse. He's on a horse.
The most exciting part of the act was
when the horse defecated on stage. And next week, the Republican
response.
6) DYLAN ANDRE (Biglerville, PA) -
performing "Daughters" by John Mayer
Not just Hot Guy with Guitar (TM), but
hot, boring guy with a guitar that lulled us all to beddy bye. Dylan
Andre was flat. I've seen fluffier pancakes.
7) LANDON SWANK (Wasilla, AK) - phasing
through a mirror.
Landon Swank continued to bore us with a
way too slow presentation with an act I've seen before done better.
8) SMAGE BROTHERS RIDING SHOWS (Elkhorn,
WI) - stunt BMX
This is the same issue I had with the
Flores - what else can you do? We saw this act already.
9) THOMAS JOHN (San Francisco) - juggling
Dropped it.
10) STEVEN RETCHLESS (New York City) -
pole dancing to "Marry the Night" by Lady Gaga
He did do something different. I just
want to know how he can raise the bar next time around. *rimshot* If he
doesn't do something different the next time out, he'll be the next
thing nailed to the pole.
11) MONA LISA (Houston) - singing "Bless
the Broken Road" by Rascal Flatts
Out of tune and boring. Wait a second...
(hits Jason Block's Media Ho-Fender button) They were on AGT before...as
Shaddai. And the judges promptly buzzed them out during the NYC
auditions. So to see them not make it past the first round - not
surprising.
12) SILHOUETTES (Denver) - shadow dancers
The one GOOD act this week. They're also
different. I think that's what the voting audience is going for this
season. Now they need to be creative for the next act and raise it.
So the Silhouettes will no doubt live to
see another day. Who's going to join them? The results... are in.
